David, as a newby IA. How do you pay taxes? Do you use an S-corp or 1099?

gina

I went broke trying to sell insurance. I drained my savings and had to take money out of my annuity. I left owing the company I worked for over $2500 for customers who flaked out on their policies. I worked over time, never missed a training meeting, joined the chamber of commerce, bought leads, went to promotional events, spoke to members of rotory clubs and held an informational brunch which I paid for. I did all this because I truly believed I would succeed. Now I'm broke.

I've been in the business about 14-15 months with no production. I related to a majority of the reasons and it really hit when you talked about MLM insurance companies. Described my last broker to a tee. Literally only 2 people were selling in a room where the majority didn't even have a license. I'm not quitting, though, and I'm actually ecstatic that I found you and so eager to go through your content and read your books!

Is Senior Life Services in Vero Beach Florida a good Insurance company to work for considering joining them but wanted to get some advice on them before I decided to get myself involved with the company

You've got to have about six months of living expenses in addition to money for buying leads before you start. And for God's sake, the right product, one you believe in, and the right agency who will train you intensively, is crucial. Otherwise, don't quit your day job until you do.

David seems like a very good guy, and I believe he is, or he wouldn't even make a video dealing with this subject. However, a 90-95% agent failure rate pretty much tells me that there are just a few people out there that can SELL. They definitely can do it and most just can't. I've noticed this in various types of sales work as a minister I talk to people in Jewlery sales, clothing and other lines of work that involves selling. It you have the "nac" for it then definitely do it but if you don't its a tough way to go. However you never know unless you try.

Thank you for covering charge backs – Write good business – [ Agents that write family members – I call 90 day wonders ] Very important

I was in the business for 3 months and hated every single second of it. My “coaches” kept pushing me to sell to friends and family. I was also given a previous book of business to where all of the clients were sick of a rotating door of agents and couldn’t stand even fielding a call from me. I did not make 1 sale in 3 months because I didn’t want to sell out my friends and family. My only experience with this business was negative which is sad because I believe in the product. If there is a 90% fail rate then something has to change with the industry, not your “mindset”.

I didn't quit I was let go. I found booking appointments to be the most difficult part of the job because most of the appointments didn't even show up. They told me that I needed to make 100 calls a day and that I would be able to book 4. The problem I had was I wasn't making enough phone calls and when I got making more phone calls all of those people that I called were people that I called over and over again and it seems like if you keep calling the same people they tend to not pick up.

Thank you for this video! I wish I would have come across this sooner. I’ve been doing my research the past 3-4 years, tiptoeing around the idea of going into insurance, but I don’t want to get burnt in the process.😰

Yaahboi52

Thanks for the context. I am in the process of getting licensed. My only question would be how much should I be setting aside to invest into leads?

amjed ibrahim

What do you think of Family First Life?

Martin Elizabeth

I’m assuming the legal liability would come from someone who’s name starts with P lol

The Bearricane

Wow I really appreciate the honesty. I'm considering whether or not I will be able to succeed in this business.

Keith Clark

Thanks for the video. I will review again and take notes. I am currently working on my Life and Health. I would like to have my own agency someday helping others being an agent. Just got off a Zoom meeting with Primerica and not knocking it, but it's not what I really want. Again, thanks for the video.

Hey David I'm thinking about becoming a agent and would like to get information about the business if you could email me at jarvisdewitt15@gmail.com

Gary Venzant

Great Information David !
Thank you so much for the value that you constantly deliver !

I quit because I just was not a good salesman. I could not generate leads which lead me to relying on cold calls and door to door knocking– generally not a recipe for success. Held onto my license for a couple years on the off chance I wanted to try again, but ultimately I decided to forfeit it.

I needed guaranteed income so I ended up trading the dress clothes and laptop for gloves and boots.

Insurance sales is not for everyone and that's ok.

I quit because of my manager's treatment of my secretary when I wasn't around. I was there from 2012-2016. This year, I joined a different company/agency. I think the culture is better here. Managers treat your people well or else they will leave you. 😅

Raul Coronado

Thank you 😊, Good information for us to know

A&O WALES

They leave because they know that insurance company are greedy & deshonest screw people.

G Z

Any thoughts about joining the major companies? IE: Transamerica, Nationwide, New York Life, Mass Mutual, etc. As an agent.

The Insurance Dudes

David is a tremendous source for Incredible Information!!!

I live in California, I just got my license family first life pushes you to buy leads I can see the pros in buying leads seem like quicker business but it’s a huge risk. What is a good agency in California that isn’t MLM. The chargeback thing I just figured out bothers me too

jemeel adams

Not enough planning. If I knew what I know now plan, plan, plan.

michelle mendoza

Not every agency out there will require you to buy leads. If you do your research there are plenty of companies out there that will provide you with a current and workable lead system. They may take a slightly higher % of commission in the beginning to offset the leads you don't have to pay for those companies do exist. I found at least two or three of them. Secondly, you can work for another company, like a P/T telesales Final Expense company or something to help substitute your income in the beginning. Not everyone has to buy a leads program and bankrupt themselves to make it. You can also go full time and work as an employee as a telesales agent to start, if you're not comfortable going out on your own at first. But to reach six figures, you will need to eventually align with a company that has great training, a good mentor and has a great vesting and residual income program. Basically, a company vested in your success! They are out there!

Tashafierce

In your opinion, what is the best company to work for in New Jersey/Pennsylvania area?

Cheryl Holman

Why do agencies think they deserve 40% of your commission even when you have been licensed for over 20 years?

Cheryl Holman

How do you switch agencies without having to start over?

CA EV

Great Video! I've been in the business for 5 years now and I have struggled but I learned to broaden my product base. In my district I have about 23 agents. We are a rural district. There have been 7 agents appointed since I became an agent and only 1 of the those 7 are still here. So I do agree there is large amount of turnover. But this is a rewarding business, you just have to put in the work and stay motivated. Thank you for the video.

Michael Huebner

I tell anyone looking to start in the Medicare industry to have at least 6 months worth of living expenses saved and 3 months worth of marketing expenses saved and be ready and okay to lose it all.

Dan Bushnell

David God-King Duford. Im like super into your channel man you cover everything god bless you. I literally search random insurance stuff im wondering about and put your name after it and you have a video on it. Its like google man. Love your work. You are a smart businessman

D Carts

After this video, I’ve decided against trying out the business. Not enough money in the bank and I’m mentally unhealthy right now with a ton of self doubt. Still taking the test soon just to know if I could even pass the test. Maybe someday.

Lord Hyde

Hey David! I’m looking to get into the insurance sales business and obviously being a fan of yours, I would like to work for your agency. At this point, I need to pay the bills with my current job so I was wondering if you have agents that sell part time? Thank you in advance!

dbcooprrr

My first agency was horrible. They kept telling me dont learn the numbers or the business but just keep recruiting and running old leads. They forbid me from buying new leads even when I had the money and had 6 months experience. Im with a good agency now, but watching that first place scam desperate people was almost enough for me to quit entirely. I still feel bad for recruiting a few people into that when I hadnt made a dime. I ended up blocking my upline because he kept trying to get me to buy the ceo's motivational material. Whole place was like a cult.

Mark Taylor

Good Video

Rolando Arellano

Because they did not do the numbers . Expenses vs. Income, Gross and net figures 100K a year after expenses is a lot less You have to be ready not to make money for 3-4 years

Jonathan Hankins

This is like asking people why they stopped going to the gym… 5% do and 95% don't. The "reasons" don't mean ANYTHING. Every successful agent you interview talks about their time spent at a bad agency… and their bad leads… and the 2-3 times they ran out of money… and how they just weren't good at sales in general.

Eastcoast Devereaux

Great video! Check your email on your website. I sent you an email yesterday about your lead program.
