THIS ENTIRE LOG SPLITTER IS POWERED BY THE TRACTOR, HYDRAULIC LIFT TOO. SPLIT FIRE 3403

There are so many things I have that I mean to use before I actually do. The 3-Pt Log Splitter from Split-Fire is no exception. We showed you an assembly video earlier in the summer, but this is our first actual test of it. We’ve got some logs cut down to size and we’re going to see how this thing performs. We’re complete firewood newbs, so go easy on us in the comments!

Had one of those, without the log lifter, for about 14 years. Works amazing. On either our Deere 4320 or Kubota L6060 we just use a bungee on the tractor hydraulic lever. One tip especially if don't have a lifter is we made a basic robust small table out of 2×4 and plywood that sits at splitter height and makes it easy as often want a place to put the big piece while splitting a smaller chunk eg after cutting in half initially. With 2 way knife for right size pieces can also stack 2 pieces and make 4 with a pass to speed things up. Goes even better with a 2 person crew as long as very attentive when operating the lever.

John Doe

I ended up buying a stand alone splitter for a couple of reasons. First was that I have a smaller tractor and the hydraulic flow just wasn't fast enough to run a splitter with any type of speed. I thought about going PTO driven, but eventually decided I'd rather put a bunch of wear on the Honda motor of my splitter, than put hours on my tractor just splitting wood. I'm happy with my choice, but maybe if I'd had a larger/faster tractor I would have gone with the 3 point splitter.

Mr. Redneck

Running a big tractor to split wood makes no sense. Nice splitter though.

Daniel Doyle

Makes a lot of sense. The tractor already has your power. Why buy, maintain and care for a redundant power system? I have thought about this a lot. My tractor can handle this as an incidental. This is cool as it gets!

Brandt Hardman

The continuous flow hydraulics are an option. Also don't run in continuous flow for long periods of time, the oil will overheat.

Chuck Thomas

Not on this video, but what is happening on the Summit Tractors? Thanks for any update.

Jared Faust

The green rear remote is for constant flow. The blue one you were using is a float detent. The green one will stay open. You just have to push it harder. I have the same tractor and i use the green to run a lane shark constant flow

Purple Collar Life

Nice splitter! Our Split-Fire splitter has worked great for us! We've made several videos about why we chose the Split-Fire brand.

RC Classic Crawlers

We built one of those tractor hydraulic powered splitters about thirty some odd years ago. Ran it off an old JD 50 tractor just above idle and always had plenty of power to split pretty much anything we came across. Sure wish we would’ve patented it back then…lol.

Kenneth Robie

hope you put one of those super gum pieces through that splitter.

67 C10

This is the unit I want!!
I have a medium duty electric splitter, but I really don’t like it as there’s a lot of picking up dropped pieces for resplitting. I have an under utilized John Deere 3039R so it would definitely be a worthwhile upgrade!! Give the one I have to neighbour that’s too cheap to buy his own,,,. We all live in $750,000 (ish) cabins and none of the ones within 10 miles in any direction are full time homes,,, I THINK he can afford a splitter! 😮 Probably got the home by being this cheap!😂😂😂 I harass him about that all the time so he would like and laugh at the gift!! Haha.
Anyways, I haul the wood in the bucket of the loader, but I have a rack I built for the quick attach on the loader so I can have that sitting separate from the tractor while splitting wood at the back so it’s handy and then hook it up when it full to move the wood to the shed and open barn/carport I built to hold my logs for milling and the split wood I have so it can season. I have an older garage I store the milled wood in so it can season in there and not get any weather on it!! I was lucky when I bought the place it had the extra garage. The carport is all 6×6 posts and ridge framing around the top. Then pre-built trusses with a steel roof. Pretty darn easy too. You can be out where you fell the trees and do the work there, keeping the yard space much cleaner from the mess you get when splitting a lot of wood!! Yep, I have convinced myself!! 😂😂

Cameron Roach

We have the 2265 Split-Fire stand-alone splitter and it has been great for us. We do 12 cords a year and the log lift is a back-saver for sure. The company here in Canada was great to deal with in buying the splitter and any questions after. Have not needed any service for it since we got it. They also hold their value very well around here.

Michael Baumgardner

Good afternoon.
They also have a splitter that'll mount to a excavator.
For those with a mini or small excavator.

James Berg

The third lever could be draft control. It is on my Deere.

RockyX13

I'm relatively new to the tractor & implement world. I heard you mention "power beyond" My JD 3025 has this for my backhoe. Would that run a splitter like this?

John Grady

On the JD you have to have the tractor running and push the hydraulic lever a little short of the float position. Might try that. Also is there a change in the back to go into the motor mode on the hydraulic?

HarryMCallahan

Split-fire's manual is a bit squirrelly on the hydraulics details. Seems they should indicate that it needs a "power beyond" type hydraulic connection to operate the splitter without jamming open the tractor valve like you had to

Rockhill farm

Nice demonstration. Really like the split fire products

Tommy Morgan

Sure are a lot of whiny tractor owners out there! You should run out to your shop right now and pet your tractor and tell it you would never make it split firewood. Maybe rub some wax on it😂!

Ben Beall

I am a matco tools distributor. And b4 anyone says anything. I will say you can 100% use an impact on crome sockets. Life time warrenty is life time. Let it eat bud!

Adam M

As soon as I saw that quad splitter, I knew he'd be switching to the single blade. 🙂
Also, pro tip – carry a 5lb mini sledge hammer beside a splitter.. way less work on the back than trying to wrestle knotted wood off the splitter.

Joe H

I have a Senco 3-point splitter I run on either my JD 4310 and 4610. I found this gives me more power than a stand alone splitter. My Red Oak logs are very tough to split.

Stubblejumper

a log lift extension and a pickaroon would save a lot of bending over. Your back would appreciate it.

Daniel Niquette

The float position on the valve behave like the float position on the loader joystick. It leaves the cylinder connected to it extend or retract freely.

It is very useful with a hydraulic top link and a land plane, a box blade or a brush hog when mowing a field.

It allows you to set the height of the three points arms, let the top link float and let the implement adjust itself contouring the surface it's on.

I do it all the time and it works perfectly when well adjusted.

Spring Hill Outdoors

When that splitter won’t power thru a split having an assistant give it a good whack with a 10 lb sledgehammer would probably help it power thru.

Frank Drahos

If I had as many tractors as you Courtney I would probably have that exact setup. Since I only have one, I like to have it available to bring rounds to the splitter or take splits away using the FEL. I upgraded to the SplitFire 3265 standalone last year for that reason. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Gene Williams

That splitter is really awesome….. except it’s missing A very important feature that you really need to add to it……….. “The Two 16 YO boys to run it while you supervise “ 😂😂. This added feature is a must to have on all woods splitters!!! 👍👍

440gohorse

Wear out a 400-500 dollar motor or a 20,000 dollar tractor motor? I don’t get it.

Matt Geren

Float won’t provide any pressure, you need “continuous flow.” If you have the dual rear SCV kit on the 2038r it will have BOTH float and cont. flow.

Ron Evans

Boy they have come a long way from when I was cutting wood and splitting 50 yrs ago.

Richard Browne

For me- I am not fan of running a log splitter or firewood processor off of the PTO. I would much rather have an engine powered unit leaving the tractor for moving the logs, rounds and firewood. Plus I wouldn’t want to tack all those extra hours on my tractor.

Jim McKnight

Do you have separate engine splitter that stands alone?I wasn't sure

Donald Cralton

in order to work the way you were trying, one of the ports should have a detent setup,if my memory serves me right!

BG 45

As you said they have different configurations. Mike Morgan uses one on a Kubota excavator. Very large rounds can be split on the ground.

Micah Gregory

Neat item but I've never been a big fan of the tractor-hydraulic splitters. Why put all the hours on a tractor engine when they could be put on a much cheaper, cheaper to run and maintain, and easy to replace small gas engine?

Wasey Herbort

Pushing that lever all the way forward is float.

Birds And Beyond

My husband and I have learnt so much from your channel. Thank you for great content.
