When Case IH launched the Quadtrac concept in 1997 they revolutionised the large tractor market. The manufacturer held a monopoly on the 4 track concept for a long time until patents expired. The original Quadtrac was based on the Steiger 9370 articulated tractor. The 9380 Quadtrac was launched in 1998 but it wasn’t until halfway 1999 before model numbers started to appear on the bonnet of the machine.
The 9380 Quadtrac features a 6 cylinder Cummins N14-A400 engine which is turbocharged and intercooled and delivers 400 HP. It uses a 12+3 powershift transmission and weighs nearly 20 tonnes. Quadtracs were popular in North America and Australia for both farming and earthmoving purposes. In Europe most were sold in the UK, where this example can be seen working. It is using an 8m wide Väderstad disc drill to sow winter wheat during autumn 2022. During recent years these tractors have become somewhat modern classics whilst still being able to put in a good days work if required.

That whine from the engine really is quite something.
