Installing a PTO on a Versatile 4WD Tractor
Video of me installing a PTO (Power Take Off on a Versatile 460 tractor. PTO’s are an option on all Versatile 4 wheel drive tractors. You can get these factory installed or can add one as a field installed option later.
I added it this to our Versatile 460 tractor and we will be using this as our grain cart tractor. In the video you will see this tractor hooked to a J&M 1112X grain cart. I will be featuring these two machines in my 2020 harvest videos.

We have 2 versatile 610..how do you put on a slow start to the pto. The dealer put a smaller orphis but still starts to quick?
Pretty good weight lifter there Mike. Who needs a frontend loader when Mike is on the job.
That new red paint sho is purdy
Wat een mooie en interessante video ik ben zelf ook boer in Holland wat hebben jullie daar grote machines groeten
I must say Versatile is thee best lookin red tractor ever manufactured. I spent a lot of hours runnin my uncle's 875.
Wow…I am impressed Mike! Please take care of your back.
Good work, can I borrow it this year for harvest? Oh wait, nevermind we just quit seeding half way through because it's too damn dry
Excellent!! I would love to know the cost of the field install, vs the factory installed version. You are a strong man, Mike, and you wisely lift with your legs. I am now subscribed!! Bryan, from Nova Scotia, Canada
Ever notice that as your fingers get bigger/fatter and less nimble, the holes get smaller?!
Great job Mike. Good to see that some people are actually are willing to do the hard work 'on-site' And do it right. You certainly deserve your spot.
And watching the videos I have one question the dropbox on the transmission how is it lubricated is it isolated from the transmission or is the transmission pumping lubricant through it just wondering good video
Whodda Man… Youdda man!!!
Great video like the safety measures you put into place!!!
Professional job for a first time. Great work!
Thanks for the video! I would have never thought that you could buy a tractor without a PTO. Even my subcompact 755 JD had duel PTO’s. It’s like owning a shovel without a handle. I wouldn’t want to do this to many times!
Probably wouldn't hurt to put some lockout tagout tags on the tractor either even if you do have the batteries disconnected and the key hidden away somewhere.
Will we get to see you at the national farm toyshow?all you need is a mask
Mike can you still get pto kits for the older buhler versatile 2425?
If I was in the market for a large 4wd tractor either with tires or tracks Versatile would be my first choice, be my second choice as well. I like the way they seem to take the best components and put them together. Be nice to have one from the late 90's with a 60 Series Detroit in it.
Manhandled quite a few heavy things in my day from 12' foot logs for a log cabin to main boom and dipperstick cylinders on an 15 ton backhoe. While it does save time sometimes my back hasn't stopped hurting for years. So I built a engine hoist/cherry picker for the front of my Steiner. Doesn't stop my back from hurting but does prevent me from damaging it more. Be something that would be pretty easy to haul behind your truck for a job like this and is small enough to get into a lot a places that you can't with a loader.
Safety first or a nickname like lefty or stumpy assuming you survive. Amazing how many people are hurt because they or others didn't follow simple safety precautions. Seem like people like to complain about safety measures until it is them or a family member who is injured and then they are ready to blame anyone and everyone.
8 of the 18 hours is getting the little styrofoam balls off of the each piece.
Great awesome video mike, nice install plus u get a good workout too
I do not think I would install PTO shielding, There is alot of other moving parts that are not shielded and it hinders maint, ie greasing, But farm safety week!
I would really like to see a Versatile combine.
Looks like a very well made package. Only a seal or two missing. Pretty rare nowadays…
Why is there a gear pump used in this?
"Farm safety week" then the very next image is clearly an unsafe situation lifting far more than one should. then claiming he should have had two Men to do the job safely.
Great job mike!
When is versatile going to try and make a comeback here in the South (North Louisiana)? There are some old dinosaurs still running on a farm not far from my house. It would be cool to see them.
I’d get some help to lift the case by the pivots. And if you can’t get help use an engine cherry picker to lift the case on the rear. Several months ago I lifted up to slide a 4 level 4’ by 8’ plywood shelf and I feel the pain in my back when I’m in bed and when I wake up. Next time I have to move it I’ll figure a better way to do it.
Hmm seems like overkill for the cart but probably one of those situations where your next smaller mover is to small?
Interesting video, however in light of Farm Safety and the tragic accident that Leg Arms had, there are a couple of things that I think you should have done differently. First you should not have been doing this alone. As I watched this I saw several times when something could have happened and you could have been pinned there. Second use a lift. I know you are not all that old now but I can assure you that you will be paying for that some day in the future. Ask me how I know 😒.
you did way better than i could i would have wore the first gallon of oil when i drain any oil and i hate digging in to wiring and crap like that in the cab please do next time get someone to help you when you are doing heavy work like that i am now disabled and in a wheel chair 90% of the time from doing heavy lifting with out help it dont pay any more to try and be a hero take it from someone that knows i dont aim to sound like i am chewing you out just helpful words from one farm hand to you being you are a farm hand
Awesome Mike 🚜👍
You wrestle grizzlies in your spare time?
As easy asfitting a USB plug into the usb port on a PC……9/7ths of a turn from first try. Admired your skill at removing the Drain plug and draining that MILKY oil (?) ….. and after ALL that and the missing wee parts, the D*#n PTO runs backwards,no? would have been the final straw! 😉 BTW what size shafts are you using there – 1-3/8"or 1-3/4" 21 spline or other – we have 1-3/4" 6 spline on our large Unimogs. Keep Fit, Mike – so when we nex meet I can greet you with " Fit like Min ? " ( seek out Doric Language )
Mate you need a kiwi to help ys … 🙂
Great video Mike. You need some outback wrap hose tamer for that cart!
To do that on your own is fair going💪
That seems a bit dodgy have the park brake and pto switch exactly the same and next to each other lol
Obviously single speed 1000 RPM. Since hydraulically driven, what is HP output? INSTALLATION: So TWO seasoned shop mechanics a full day ++ VS Mike Less in ONE Day. Sounds about right. Note shop mechanics do not lift >150 lbs w/o human or mechanical assistance.
That looked heavy!
Mike looks like you need a young farm hand
Please pray for the farmers in South Africa. Our farmers are being slaughtered. Farmers, their wives and children are being tortured. Our government is standing by and doing nothing about it. There is a political party called the EFF Economic freedom fighters that literally sings a song “Kill the Boer( white people), Kill the Farmer” . Last week they tortured and murdered another 21 year old farmer and then tied him by his neck to a pole for his father to find him. Please we need the international community to speak about this. Please I beg of you. 😢😭
How are the electric on them is it like a john Deere or case hi
