As someone who joined the Splatoon hype train at the end of Splatoon 2’s lifespan, there’s a lot of Splatoon history I missed out on.
I didn’t own a switch for a long time, so I picked up the original Splatoon at a secondhand game store. My friends were playing through the newly-released Octo Expansion while I was beating DJ Octavio for the first time.
Because I missed out on all the Splatfests, Maritime Memory is one of the only Squid Sisters songs I got to listen to in-game. It evokes a lot of fond yet bittersweet memories for me.
Also, I thought it would be fun to add lyrics for Cuttlefish’s rapping. I know I didn’t get all of it, but I DID make lyrics for his brief solo!

i’m a certified splatoon 1 genwunner and it was really something to experience when it first came out. nintendo did an awful job advertising it, it looked awful from the adverts. my friend told me it was amazing though, so i tried it, prepared to hate it and i was shocked. still one of the best games i’ve ever played. too bad you missed the magic. the second one definitely wasn’t the same. the third one has recaptured what made the og special, tho 😀
god. this song brings me so much tears especially the end. the description of the song also makes me pause and sit for a moment, I may be far from turning 17 but in the same time I’m very close as well. and like the official description says for Maritime Memory: “the fragile period of time between a girl and a woman” just hits deep like a wound, once again. I’ll admit I don’t have much of a connection with this song—I never played the original Splatoon—but that didn’t stop me from feeling these lyrics hit! The theme of growing up and reconciling with all the change you’ve gone through, all the memories you’ve learned from, is very relatable, and you’ve communicated it perfectly 🙂

This sounds so pretty but also sad, I love it! I also love how it sounds like trying to recover an old memory. I have really bad memory and don’t remember a lot of things, so this really resonates with me.
I’ve always adored city of colour/maritime memory, and I’m amazed at how you can completely reimagine the lyrics based on a slight change in mood, and still get all versions to sound ink-redible. (Don’t mind the pun)❤

hearing this after they announced the dlc is making me almost cry. i’ve never played splatoon 1 or 2 myself (i got into splatoon when 3 came out), but my brother would play both games in our living room a lot. i would always watch him. he is graduating from high school this year, and he has already applied to colleges nearby. there lyrics really make me bittersweet about that lol
after the reveal of the expansion pass, this makes me even more emotional. ive always been a huge oth fan, but these two have definetly grown on me the past year ive been into the franchise. you really took the whole point of this song and took it to a whole other level….. it makes me go awahauhahagaua
