DON’T Buy This – QD OLED G8 Samsung G85SB Monitor Review

AWOOGA A brand new reasonably sized high refresh rate QD OLED monitor is available whaaaaaat I know what your asking, WHO can I throw my money at to purchase this work of art, but wait a minute, let’s first take a look at this bad boy to determine whether or not it’s actually worth buying

And starting off with the specs the Samsung G85SB a 175Hz glossy 34” curved 21:9 QD OLED panel with a resolution of 3440×1440 giving it a PPI of 109.68 and it boasts a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and a lightning fast response time of 0.03ms which of course will make this a fantastic gaming monitor blowing even the best LCDs out of the water.

Additionally it supports freesync and gsync technology, (though it does not have a gsync module), it’s rated for HDR400 True Black, has viewing angles of 178 degrees, and in terms of the ports.

It has one mini DisplayPort, one micro HDMI 2.1 port, 2 USB C ports, and a non standard power plug, so don’t lose it. And I’m sure some people will find the mini ports cool, but realistically nobody is going to have these cords laying around meaning if you want to use HDMI 2.1 I guess you better order a cable since mine didn’t come with one.

What doesn't make sense to me is that they released it in 2023 but put in the 2022 panel technology. Why didn't they use the panel of S95C ?

The Alienware QD-OLED wasn't GLOSSY. I dont think this one is either. It may look glossy, but its not. It has some kind of layer in the glossy coating, making for a slightly veiled picture.

Way overpriced for an OLED monitor. Plus the mini port connections are an extra hassle. Don't get me wrong awesome color reproduction. But for the ppi and lower resolution I wouldn't pay more than $899 for one. $1499 is insane. You might as well buy yourself a LG C2 42 inch OLED at $999.

I wish he stops doing those noise, it's very cringey

No thx, yes OLED is a dream for gaming due to its color reproduction and deep blacks, near to 0 ms respons time ect ect. BUT the price asked is beyond scam from MONITOR providers. I mean most of gaming monitors are milking to the extent of being stomach sick. for the priced asked for this monitor u can get an 65 inch high end OLED tv

ZiK

Damn… want to buy one but the text fringing is a deal breaker for me. I will get LG C2 for my XBox to satisfy my need for an OLED for now xD

I like how there's no fan on this versus the alienware. Dell has the worst customer service imaginable

All Samsung products you should be careful of if you have to buy it get extended warranty.

I’ve bought TVs, Monitors and appliances. Fridge lasted 6 months replaced with LG. Dishwasher lasted 3 months replaced with Bosch. The only thing from Samsung I had no problems with is the gas stove/oven. Bestbuy literally loses money on me with my extended warranties.

I have it and can not recommend it at all.
First , unbelievable, but it does not turn on when your PC turns on. What the fuck !!?
Then it always ends up at SamsungTV app running when using the remote control. That is shit.
Then its smart control is so damn slow.
The quality of the integrated Apps on screen is very very bad. Can not bear what I see. It is good with the PC though.
Its Docking Station function is not useable with my PC(but with my laptop), also not with a USB C to A adapter. And others do have A and C, so you can have your PC until you bring your laptop along to plug in. And yes, it does not turn on there either. Fuck you Samsung with your shity TV Tizen software!

I bought it for 1279Fr. and the panel is very potent and I will keep it for a moment. Hope dearly for an update.

Alienware is $500 cheaper for same monitor.

Premiere Pro and Lightroom actually have stuttering issues when using with a G-Sync display and having G-Sync enabled. I have to disable G-Sync to smoothly use them. It seems like a known bug that Adobe isn’t willing to address.

Chris Hmeleh

Can you share the exact Alienware model you speak about ?

Fake HDR 400.

Any chance to have review of KTC G42P5 – 42“ 4K OLED 138Hz, 0.1ms (GTG) Gaming Monitor in near future?

Phillips coming out of no where and realizing next month

I LOVE this Monitor.
No Problems, no quality issues, nothing.
I picked it over the alienware because the alienware is a bit loud and with the g8 you have a smart TV included + game hub. You can adjust the settings with remote control .. These things make the g8 so much better for me as the alienware.
I use it with an rtx and free sync works perfect.

Vincent Kellenbenz

I used the Monitor for a couple of days but it has significant input lag compared to the Alienware. Another problem is the FreeSync can stutter like crazy. I wanted to keep this monitor very badly because of the looks but it just does not work for responsive and smooth gaming. Considering it is not cut out for office work or creative work, you should go for an LCD or the Alienware.

Freelancer604

0:29 was very unnecessary

Thomas Campagna Kunrath

Does it stay at 120hz in the desktop while with gaming mode and hdr off?

81bestof

i am really happy with this monitor, and i find it to be a blessing that it does not have the G-sync module and all the fan-noise that it comes with. And the mini-dp/HDMI is not an issue at all for me. I bought a mini-hdmi to hdmi, and then i have 175hz 12Bit color. I would recommend the G8 🙂

Been trying to get one from Best Buy bc as a totaltech member, I get 2 years of warranty (+ accidental), so I can play panel lottery with ease, but mf been sold out since day 1..

Damien Bafile

The colour fringing issue is not the fault of Samsung. Microsoft needs to fix true typefonts. But yeah not a good monitor anyway.

Samsung is one of these criminal companies scamming and stealing money from its users.. i know one of my 980 2TB crapped with the famous firmware bug.. and i steal have problem having them honor the warranty

I used Samsung EPP discount to purchase it with a price tag at $1200. At this price, it seems to be worth the additional price compared to AW3423dwf. Samsung has HDMI 2.1 and can get to 12bit@175Hz which is better than the AW3423dwf's 10bit@100Hz. I also like Samsung's stand better than Alienware's. However my unit has QC issues as well. It has a dead pixel and TV static was observed as shown in your video as well. End up returning this unit and reordered one. I'll see if I can be luckier next time.
