I always felt that if you are not into bolterporn and want to learn more about the universe:
First the 3 eisenhorn books,
Then the commisar cain books to give it some contrast.
Continue with inq ravenor and the collective eisenhorn shortstories.
And then you can already Start with the awakening of roboman since that is actually Happening quite fast (for WH40k standards).

I believe that the best way to get into the lore is to first listen to Leutin's video on the Tyranids first contact.
Its a four year old video you can access on Youtube which also covers the battle of McCragge in Ultramar.
Then immediately after that listen to the Devastation of Baal on Audible.
This details the Blood angels epic defense of their homeworld from Tyranid invasion.
These two sources should help give you some perspective on thd scale of Warhammer 40k while been utterly entertaining.

God. I fucking hate to see 40k become mainstream. There is 90% chance this will ruin the franchise. Modern institutions should not be trusted with something so interesting and valuable.
I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me.
