It's great to have the option to get coverage but if you live in the wilderness, you can be dead before reaching any higher more definitive care. I work on an ambulance, if you can't get immediate care for a heart attack ( the way most people die) you can suffer life long disability due to the heart muscle dying. (time is brain and heart). Just an important as a robust EMS system, you need to have trained doctors to immediately assess for a stroke and have you in for a C scan within MINUTES upon arrival in the ER. Finally, cardiac events require a catherization lab. The doctors in these labs will be able to remove a clot and reestablish circulation and may prevent permanent heart damage. All that to say, Insurance is sort of useless if the care you need just isn't available or will take you hours to get to. Most people WILL face a stroke or heart attack in their life.
