Nvidia Shield TV: Long Term Review

The Shield TV has been out for a few years now, and was always considered one of the Android TV boxes out there. But is the Shield still worth it in 2018?

Why does it take so long for Nvidia to replace the non responsive remotes? Paying g internet with no shield TV is pointless.

s2 Mr raiz

good console

Bill Anastasiou

Hi, How many different shields are there? and what's the difference besides getting the extra controller.? thanks

DaddytechEnt

We just cut the cord because we were paying up to $300.00 a month for cable with all of the channels and the internet and phone. What i didn't see in your set up is the ability to watch local channels also. this is important to me to have all of the functionality that yours does minus the games and still be able to get local television stations for news and such. is this capabe? just curious. looking to make a purchase in the next few days

Devin

it really shouldn't have TV in the name if you can't watch live TV on it.

Ayub Alom

You can always put your headphones in your TV

Can you play keyboard and mouse on this? And also what if you only have a 2.4ghz wifi router but you connect it to the Nvidia shield with the lan cable?

Have had mine for 2 years with expanded USB 3.0 256 GB storage. I have a Fire TV that just collects dust. Just keep putting out updates, this thing is the best

CzKing94

Love my shield. Was thinking about getting a Apple TV since I have a lot of Apple devices butttt it’s not worth it.

campkira

too late no buy buy it now.

Mr Nobody

Too expensive. Fire TV Stick is only $50.

Max Dexter

SPEAK LOUDER!!!

Jesus Duque

Why not use kodi to play your 4k movies. My Shield does that flawlessly. ES file explorer is just an insane work around.

MannyRozal

I don’t game so what box has similar power as the Shield but built specifically for streaming?

CrewsMachine

Can you remove the convoluted menu and just have an option to load directly into a streaming service?

Audie Williams

Headphones outlet is on the controller and remote…

Shield TV still kicks ass going into 2019. I also have the Pro model. I bought it pretty much on a whim in 2016 and have been astounded by how useful it is and how much I utilize it. Everything from watching movies, listening to podcasts, playing emulators, and streaming AAA titles either from my gaming PC or from Nvidia's GeForce Now service.

Especially the 500GB Pro model, it acts as a NAS if you don't already have one.

If you have a NAS, you can keep all you movies and emulation library on it and access it flawlessly with the Shield. I have a 2TB NAS plugged into my router and the Shield sees it as easily as if it was built in storage.

I truly cannot recommend the Shield enough.
