Because games are the most subjective media and MMO are the most divisive genre thanks to focusing on addictive gameplay loops that polarize different types of thinkers.

If you are curious why there seems to be an odd push on "ignoring" the bad side of ffxiv is because our issues tend to get fixed over time. The consumers would of loved to complain about the TP mechanic, the paladins dont block magic with their shields, the lack of personal dps on ninjas, the Heavy debuff on mounted players, the bad machinist rotation, Dark Knights being sub par tanks, but all these issues were fixed….over time. The ffxiv community is just aware that the Dev team isn't that big and their MMO engine isn't technically an MMO engine. The engine wasn't meant to be an MMO so we all kinda agree that stuff isn't going to be up to better standards because of the engine. The devs are open on whats coming and are zipped lip on surprises they can pull off. It ain't perfect but the customers don't feel like pay pigs and that is important to us.

I have been playing MMORPGs since EQ came along. And I agree you cant just be a one-sided one-game/company player. But that is inevitable. For example, I compare all other MMORPGs with EQ and all Scifi ones with anarchy online. Why? cause those were my introduction to these types of games. Those were the ones that I used to spend days inside a room playing ..( EQ just sucked me several times for 3 consecutive days nonstop no sleep grind more than one time). Today I don't even play anymore if they have a monthly sub. Anyhow, I been around the block and played many many MMORPGs, all have a good thing and some bad none are perfect ( not even my beloved EQ), they all have pros and cons, the player must decide where to stop or continue. Some games like WoW took about 4 months for me to like. Today if I want to be back to WoW I probably need to do classic but even that is fading the new way WoW is done and played is not the same as classic. Eventually that wow classic will catch up to live and that would be it of classic until they open another set of classic servers. Good video, great topic for a bigger conversation on the future of MMORPGs. Moving forward I may try that new world MMORPG. But most likely I will fall back into the free space of EQ servers lol.

Dualities

the game lack social and PVP updates. The game is outdated lets be real. It is a shame really since the game has amazing soundtracks, characters, bosses… but mostly only PvE fans will experience it. they need to combine PvE and PvP aspect of the game. also need to add alternatives to 300 h of story leveling. tab targeting combat with 2.5s global cd in 2021, they thought they can get away with it by having crazy animations but that only clutters the game.outdated subscription model, not a single good 4v4 map, no open world guilds/players fighting FOR bosses, no chat bubble, no PVP quests/events, no small font option, no ability to tame open world monsters as your mount…the game is 20 years behind and they are focusing on everything else but updating the game. they are kinda lucky the Final Fantasy franchise is popular. Imagine Final Fantasy would have actual true action combat like Smite or The Kings Avatar animation. they could learn a lot from it. people defend the game so much the game stops improving. people that care most about the game they complain. and they mix competitive spirit with toxicity. or how new players cant even post on ffxiv reddit. booth WoW and FFXIV are outdated at this point. They could learn a lot from the Kings Avatar animation from Tencent. good video tho.

in game: community is nice helpful
out of game: some are super-gatekeepers and are toxic

FF 14 is best described as a singleplayer JRPG set in a MMO setting, couse the story is the main focus and i totally agree its not the best(some of the gameplay, not the story wich is beyond superb), but then again, what MMO is?
It appeals to a totally different crowd then say WoW or Guild Wars who mainly focus on gameplay and are faster.
As for the players, i myself have had a positive expirience with the community ever since i started playing it 2 years ago and recently came back to it after a half year break, but its still just as good.
That said, u will always have rude and obnoxious players in a MMO, no exeptions, one can only hope thats not all u see of it.
Still, have fun with it, it takes a while to build up, but once it gets going u'll have a good time i'm sure.

I would say this telling someone to play all of ffxiv to understand what is going on is like telling someone to watch a complete TV series. Its a lot to watch but its worth it.

1. Many FFXIV classes are based on a three button rotation but you don't get the third button until Level 26. That is bad.

2. The 2.5 second Cool down is fine at higher levels when you have more off cool down abilities but makes combat interminable at low levels.

2. The graphics are too flashy by default – you can turn them down but that should be the default.

3. FFXIV PVP uses a subset of PVE skills which plays entirely differently. There is zero World PVP. Two of the PVP modes (The 4-player and 48-player) are almost entirely ignored.

5. Every crafting and gathering class has to be leveled independently and can feel like a major grind if you are in a hurry.

6. "Pray return to the Waking Sands" – the ARR story has far too many fetch quests.

7. The Glamour System doesn't keep permanent copies of Gear and is way more confusing than WoW's Transmog.

8. You get two Retainers for free – limiting you to 20 items on the Market board. But you can pay for up to 9 more – clear Pay-to-Win that no one ever talks about.

9. You can only send mail to other characters on your friends list – not your own alts. WoW lets you send mail to your own alts.

10. The best way to gear for a new Raid Tier is to buy or craft the latest Crafted Set – which will be higher ilevel than the previous Savage set.

11. The game has a box price, paid expansions, a monthly subscription and a cash shop of cosmetics.

12. If you want to play Ninja, Dark Knight or any of the other added Jobs you have to level something else high enough to unlock it.

13. The crowd noise can get very loud in places like Limsa.

14. Your Grand Company Squadron can't be leveled past 60.

15. There was no new Deep Dungeon in Shadowbringers.

16. You can't play Blue Mage as your main job.

As much as I like FFXIV the game has some definite flaws.

I love FF14, one of the best mmos I have played, yeah it's a bit expensive, but imo, its worth the price, as for the community, that depends on the Data center and server you choose, some are better than others, i'm on Primal – Ultros, and they have been nothing but helpful, ask a question and someone answers, need people for a dng? ask and you shall receive.

Personally I think the game actually starts afer ARR (A Realm Reborn) once you get past that, the game picks up.

good video my man i hope you have fun with the game cuz that is all that matters in the end

Terrible takes as usual. But when you stated on about that idiot lazy peon having to take down that poorly research and poorly done video, I knew where this was heading. I sometimes look at channels and wonder "damn, how they have a channel for damn near a decade, and still aint crack 100k views" then I see shit like this and go "oh, ok that explains that". Look we get it, you play those pvp excuse for mmos where the devs go "do anything you want" as a way to mask creating zero content for the actual game. Go play that and leave people who like actual good mmos to their own devices. Here's a dislike by the way.

I played 30 hrs or so of the game before, I wasn't feeling it. But since then I would have giving it another chance if the community wasn't so obnoxious and toxic towards people who enjoy games like classic wow. I have not had a single good interaction discussing the game past to point where i said i didn't like what i played. All i get are excuses as to why my experience is wrong, yet for more rational players of the game, agreed with my criticisms.

It's that thing where because people enjoy something, they feel like it must be good, or everyone must like it. Imagine if i had that attitude towards WoW? People would mock me, and rightfully so. How is that any different? Im not the kind of person who bases what they like on how community perception is, but if most players of the game are blind zealots, and the devs have made openly dubious comments about people like myself (sweaty, dedicated hardcore gamers), then why should i even waste my time?

People dont seem to realize that no game is owed any sort of reverence in someone's personal taste.

I've enjoyed and later loved FF14 since A Realm Reborn. In the past I have played Runescape, Perfect World, Forsaken World, Dungeon Fighter Online, and Vindictus before playing 14. I had thought I would hate the GcD after playing games like Vindictus but it just became something I didn't mind. The story while not this epic adventure at the beginning was still something I read.

The biggest issue with FF14 is that as a player you have to unlearn alot of mmo habits such as speed reading quest text. Also Skylent you are very much correct in that the amount of mmo you partake in is fairly small. The world is still massive but there is a low amount of time truly interacting with a massive group of players.

One thing about Final Fantasy is that when players chill in the main cities there will be interaction going on instead of just everyone going about their day. It may just be a few emotes toward each other or other times compliments about how a player looks but it is there.

To mention the community. People say the community of 14 is really good because of how often players are helpful to new or learning players. Thats not to say there arent the bad more toxic players within the community though. I think the general reason people are more friendly on ff14 is that they enjoy the game and the developer behind the game. They do not have baggage that other mmorpgs have where they feel the devs/publisher does not care about the game as more than a money maker.

If you want some sources to cite in terms of the brain going on 'autopilot', look no further than the nobel prize winning book: Thinking Fast and Slow, by Daniel Kahneman. 🙂

Also: FFXIV is the only polished theme park MMORPG in which the world actually feels immersive, with features focusing on supporting (but not forcing) social interaction. I believe that's one of the main reasons why some of us love the game.

Never understood how they only have west coast servers on a $15 sub game.
