Professor Schoenbaum ’ second Distinguished International Law Lecture will be delivered from 12:00 pm – 1:00 promethium on Wednesday, February 2 via Zoom Webinar. It will be entitled “ U.S. Trade Policy under Trump and Biden: The Ongoing Trade War and Standoff at the WTO. ” Among the issues he will explore are the tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration and their affect ; the extent to which the Biden Administration has maintained those tariffs and why ; the condition of discriminative review of the Trump and Biden barter policies ; the decisions by both administrations not to appoint new members to the WTO Appellate Body, which has resulted in that body becoming unable to hear appeals ; and what the future holds for the WTO and U.S. deal policy more broadly.

prior to his current roles, Professor Schoenbaum served as Research Professor of Law at the George Washington University School of Law ; as Professor of Graduate Studies at the International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan ; as Dean Rusk Chair of International and Comparative Law at the University of Georgia ; and as Associate Dean and Founding Executive Director of the Admiralty Law Center, Tulane University, among other positions .
He holds a BA degree ( summa semen laude ) from St. Joseph ’ sulfur College ( Indiana ) ; a D.E.S.S. in Philosophy ( Diplôme d ’ etudes supérieurs specialisées ) from the Université Catholique de Louvain ( Belgium ) ; a JD ( with distinction ) from the University of Michigan ; and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge ( U.K. ) .
