CHOPPING CORN SILAGE with Allis Chalmers Tractors

Chopping corn silage using Allis Chalmers Tractors and New Holland Forage Harvesters.

This video comes from a family farm near Fort Recovery Ohio as they harvest their 2022 corn silage crop for feed for their beef cattle herd. Lots of different Allis Chalmers tractors pulling New Holland Forage Harvesters and H&S forage boxes in this video.

My question is about the guy chopping having the blower spout filling the front only. Why not be topping off the whole wagon i stead of filling the beaters? Just curious, not being sarcastic as we chop all our feel the same setup.

Derek Kienzle

Wow. What a beautiful collection of tractors. I grew up on 100 and 8000 series AC tractors, they are my favorite! I could listen to those 426s on the blowers all day!

lloyd k

Great lookin' fleet of the best farm tractors ever made!

Russ Ivey

Is there an advantage to running pull type choppers instead of the self propelled like they have in this operation?

The collection of Allis tractors on this farm is amazing.

sky post

that place at 2:51 was hit in the fort recovery tornados. my uncles farm out there was hit too

THE PUBLIC EYE

They don't use this equipment regularly do they?

Dodie

In one segment of the Video we are running our test plot. You can see we are filling just the front of the wagons. We harvest 3 rows then weigh and take samples to send in for analysis of relative feed value. We had 15 different hybrids in the plot. We use this information to select the best hybrids to use for corn silage. You can get this information from Beck’s Hybrids or your local Beck’s dealer

That was a fun video watching all the orange getting it done.

I loved the allis cab when they came out with the 80 series tractor so roomy great view so much better than what other tractors had at the time thanks for sharing

Awesome video! I bleed green but Allis Chalmers and IH are my 2nd and 3rd favorites! The 1880 chopper was also made with a Detroit motor, there was one on Tractorhouse probably a year ago.

Mike, awesome video of awesome old equipment – they look new still. I realize they have been repowered but the tractor using the PTO to fill the silos, that look like 50-70 ft tall tubes, approx how often do they change oil in that tractor – in harvest season? Merry Christmas!

John McCart

Nice whistle coming off those Cummins repowers!

John ODwyer

Do they have to use the AC for this job or is this more for fun, guys pulling wagons would drive me crazy if I was running the harvester

Bill Booth

Pretty neat stuff,go farmhand Mike

Tony Burelle

Great video, great lineup of equipment too!

staudtj1

Do some Farmers sell silage to other dairymen or is it just usually producing for their own herd?

staudtj1

What does a silage wagon weigh when filled up?

Douglas Skaalrud

This reminds me of watching old locomotives on small railroads still hauling trains and earning their keep. Some of these old locomotives are now 70 years old and as long as their parts supply holds out they will continue to work.

Olaf Schmidt

Thanks a lot for the video
ands merry christmas to y'all! 😊👍🏻

I see Allis and hit like! lovely to see these big Allis's working. My small collection is from the other end of the power range – a B, WC and D272 but would love to get hold of a 200 from the US someday!

Chris Gossman

Merry Christmas Mike. Thanks for sharing again. Looking forward to the next video. Great video shots on this one. Happy subscriber 😊! BTW I am like #900. Let's hope that number goes well up into the 7k region 😀.

outbackladas

Nice line up of older tractors, still doing the job very effectively too. Hope you and family have a great Christmas and holiday time together. Regards from Down Under.

pinesedge farm

Some very nice looking orange tractors!

Christopher Lovelock

Great video of a make of tractor you only see in the UK now at vintage vehicle rallies, and not that many either. – I get the impression that this farm whilst having a beautiful collection of, (dare I say preserved tractors), and machinery get it to 'work' for its keep. – Merry Christmas to You, Your Family, and everyone who watches your channel from one of your subscribers in the UK.🌲🍷🚜👋……….

Robert Dehring

Merry Christmas Mike from Dehring family

Tyler Dye

That ac 220 on the blower is absolutely beautiful

martin

That D21 the meanest lookin tractor ever built

Mike Boeckerman

I'm a John Deere guy, but those are some beautiful AC's. Lots of hard work and care to keep them in that condition.

As much as I love watching corn forage videos, and wished I had a chance to chop corn myself, you could not ever get me to climb up a vertical silo. To me, those steel silo ladders incorporated into the silo wall is not safe. I mean one wrong slip and its bye bye. I mean I love vertical silos and admired them for 50 years now. One would think that after all these decades someone would have devised a much safer silo ladder. I keep thinking that some type of enclosed elevator would do the trick–a bit like an elevator in a high rise hotel. I know, yes my idea sounds freaky, but human life always comes first. At any rate , i enjoyed the video and Merry Christmas.

Keith Aeschbach

Merry Christmas! That is one of the best videos I've seen! That line up of tractors is like a dream. I was so excited to see that 4w220 chopping on Instagram and couldn't wait for the video. Great job and keep up the good work.

Tom Moyer

Nice fleet of Allis Chamers tractors 👍

Dej1369

Great awesome video mike . Happy holidays and merry Christmas to your family from mine to yours . Hope to get out skidooing very soon , just started grooming trails here

Zach Wott

Great video!

Jacob B

Wow that is a very well kept line up of Allis tractors. When I was a little kid we ran an Allis 7580 on a gehl 1250 chopper and wagons. It is cool to see big old articulated tractors on choppers. Merry Christmas!!

Sean Connolly

A whole lot of awesome orange in this video!

rich

What happended to the original engines on those 2 tractors?

404nitro

Awesome!! I am an AC fan and have been for decades. There's some beautiful old machines right there. While I love watching modern SP forage harvesters work, there's something special about a pulled FH, so this was excellent.

DCW

Was that you up at the top of the silo? Thanks

DCW

Mike I am a deere guy but love seeing those Chalmers working. Thanks

Brp Fan

Awesome video Mike! Loved seeing all the Allis tractors in very nice shape!

Bowhunters

Brings back so many memories (that kid @ 7:45 ) would have been me riding with my dad back in the day cutting silage up until I was about 12 and one day while disking one of our fields he stopped the tractor and told me to get in the seat and see if my feet could reach the clutch and brake pedals. Thanks Mike and a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all here ! 🎄🎀🎁✨

Garnet Bush

Awesome video!
I grew up running a 180AC, then we purchased a 200. Both were great machines, basic reliable and ready to get the job done.
Chopping corn silage was one of my favorite jobs. Hearing 12' corn stalks going there the 718 New Holland harvester is a great sound.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. 😀
