I have the Google Pixel 7 Pro here and in today’s video I’ll be showing you how to install the official build of LineageOS 20. This process will work for the base model of the Pixel 7 as well as the Pixel 7 Pro that I have here, and can also be used for those with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

To begin, we are going to need to make sure our Google Pixel 7 has a version of Android 13 installed on it. Since LineageOS 20 is based on Android 13, we need to be on that version before we can install this custom ROM.

Before we can install anything though, we need to set some things up ahead of time. For example, you must have an unlocked bootloader before a ROM can be installed.

We should also download the files that are required for us to complete this installation. The latest version of the LineageOS ROM should be downloaded. We need to download the Android 13 ARM64 version of a Google Apps package. And we’re going to need to download the Recovery IMG file. This is going to be a vendor_boot.img file that we download that has been made specifically for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7, or Pixel 7 Pro that we’re currently installing the ROM on.

All of these are linked in the installation wiki page for LineageOS but I’ll go ahead and include them in the video description as well.

Save these three files in the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools.

When you’re ready to begin, let’s go ahead boot the Google Pixel 7 Pro into Fastboot Mode. When you are at the Fastboot Mode screen, make sure we have a USB cable connected to it from the PC and then open up a command prompt, windows powershell, or a terminal window in the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools.

Now, we’re going to install the recovery img file to our device by typing out the command. . .

fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img

. . .and then pressing the Enter button on the keyboard. We should get two OKAY messages here.

With that done, we need to boot the Google Pixel 7 into Recovery Mode.

Once we get into Recovery Mode, we’re going to need to perform a factory reset and format the data partition.

Now we can begin the installation of the LineageOS 20 custom ROM by selecting the Apply Update option and then telling the smartphone we want to Apply the update from ADB.

When the phone has been put into ADB Sideload Mode, type out the following

adb sideload [filename]

and we can press the TAB button to autocomplete the filename of the firmware.

When it’s typed out correctly, press Enter on the keyboard and wait for the firmware to be sent to the Google Pixel 6 or Pixel 7. There’s a note on the install wiki page saying that in some cases, the process could stop at 47% with a success message. Or you could see a failed to read command error. . .all of these seem to be okay responses.

With this done, if you want to run the ROM without Google Apps then you can reboot back into Android from here and begin using your smartphone. However, if you’re also wanting to use the Google Play Store then you need to install a GApps package as well.

This needs to be the ARM64 version of the Android 13 Google Apps package and it needs to be in the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools as well. So from here, we need to reboot from Recovery Mode back into Recovery Mode.
