Fastboot Mode is also sometimes referred to as Bootloader Mode, and is a special boot mode on the majority of Android smartphones and tablets. From Fastboot Mode, we can do things like boot the device over into Recovery Mode, begin the process of unlocking the bootloader, and even flashing firmware files if we had previously unlocked the bootloader.

So in today’s video, I’ll be showing you how to access this special boot mode on the entire Google Pixel 7 series. This includes the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and the upcoming affordable option, likely to be called the Google Pixel 7a.

I’ll be demonstrating the button combination method in this video but know that you can also use an ADB command if you have USB Debugging Mode enabled along with ADB & Fastboot tools installed on your device. I have yet to do a dedicated tutorial on the ADB method yet, but will link to it in the video description below once it is available here on the channel.

With the button combo method, though, we don’t need to install any additional tools, nor do we need to have a PC on hand either.

It’s very easy to perform and starts with us bringing up the Power Menu and rebooting the Google Pixel 7

Once you see the screen go black from a restart, press and hold the Volume Down button while the smartphone is in the process of booting back up.

If you did this correctly, you should see the Fastboot Mode menu appear on the screen.

From this menu, we cannot interact with the phone using the touchscreen. Instead, we need to use the hardware buttons on the side of the phone to navigate through the menu. So we can press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to change which option is highlighted in this menu.

And then we will want to press the Power button to select the option that is shown here.

So if you wanted to view the bar codes of the phone, we would make sure that option is highlighted, and then press the Power button to select it. If we wanted to shut the phone down from the Pixel 7 Fastboot Mode menu, then we would make sure that option is highlighted and then press the Power button to select it.

Since it is so easy to boot the device into Fastboot Mode, I know there are going to be some people who do this accidentally. This is going to be even more common among people who use a case like I do, since some cases can press on the hardware buttons when you’re not aware of it.

So if you have booted the Google Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro into Fastboot Mode by accident, know that everything is okay and we can boot out of this special boot mode and back into Android by highlighting the Start option and pressing the Power button to select that option.

As long as your Android filesystem is intact, then you should see the phone restart and load into the mobile operating system like normal.

If you find that your phone is in a bootloop, and you are forced back into Fastboot Mode each time you try to boot into Android, then there is likely something wrong with the system files of the OS and you should boot over into Recovery Mode to try a factory data reset to fix it.
