The IRDAI has sent a proposal to government for 100% insurance of vehicles on Indian roads. ET Now learnt from sources that lead insurers in each state will tie up with the transport department. Authorities will also impose penalty and send notices to all uninsured vehicle owners, holding a Zero tolerance policy. For context, around 50% of over 30 crore vehicles on the road are uninsured. So will this mandate come as a big boost for insurance companies? And will citizens actually follow through the mandates?
