Highlight Rows Based on Cell Value in Excel

In this tutorial, I will show you how to highlight rows based on a cell value using conditional formatting using different criteria.

This can easily be done using conditional formatting in Excel.

I cover the following examples in this video
— Highlight rows based on the text value
— Hight rows based on number value or date value
— Highlight rows that have blank cells in it
— Highlight rows based on multiple conditions

The technique here uses conditional formatting formula that checks each cell and applies the format if the result is TRUE and does not apply the format if the result is FALSE

Why sometimes I am not getting results??
I can't determine my blank cells

Really good, thanks for this!

I only really needed thestarting info to double check something so didn't watch until the end. I scrubbed through the video just in case, but my Excel had the option to duplicate the rule so it was a bit faster to duplicate and change the search query to something else. Really appreciate the great tutorial though!

Thanks Sir, you have missed teaching one condition if we want row till specific column, then what will be formula in conditional formatting? For example if columns have months Jan Feb Mar …. Dec and we want to highlight row only till reference month name i.e. Feb or Mar. If possible kindly make video at this topic, if already have share its link

Nigel Stock

Excellent tutorial. Concise, very informative and just the right tempo.

PLEASE HELP!!

I want to highlight the Rows with the same color however there is a condition that:

Highlight a Row when in the column "A" word COMPUTER appears.
Highlight a Row when in the column "A" word LAPTOP appears.
Highlight a Row when in the column "A" word TELEVISION appears.
Highlight a Row when in the column "A" word IRON appears.

I want to highlight all those ROWS with the same color whenever these words came in the column.

I hope you understands my question and will reply the query.

Thank You.

So, I've been trying to make CF work for about an hour with my spreadsheet and sometimes Excel 2010 just changes the formula you make for no obvious reason, and sometimes it just doesn't apply it right. For anyone out there who has this same issue, CF seems to work if you apply your formula for one row in the range of cells and then copy and paste the formatting to the rest of the datasheet. To copy and paste formatting:

Select the cell or cells whose format you wish to copy.

Press Ctrl+C or press Ctrl+Insert. …

Select the cell or cell range into which you want the formats pasted.

Choose Paste Special from the Edit menu. …

Choose the Formats radio button.

Click on OK.

Excellent! thanks!

Hi, I have got a problem. I want to do a conditional formatting with a formula: =$E11=$F$11 and in the cell F11 I would like to write any kind of value in which I am interested (by default I wrote 1500). I am working on my own data and the E column contains salary. However, this formula doesn't work for me at all. Could you help me, please?
(I don't have a list in F11, I want to write any possible value there.)

I also have a question, does conditional formatting only formats rows? Is there a way to have a conditional formatting for columns?

Mina Amir

thanks

If I have to change the color for only row from where the value is changed , and changed again if value changed , what should i have to write
