It’s a shame that Runerigus wasn’t able to do much in Gen 8. If this was a few generations ago, I’m sure it would have made for a great lower-tier Pokémon, but such is the nature of power creep

HELL YEAH I love these two ghosty bois! When I was starting to take competitive more seriously recently, I made my first doubles team themed around ancient Pokemon. I decided to make Runerigus the core of my team as a stall-y trick room setter and had an absolute blast pairing them with offensive mons like Perrserker and Stonjourner, and extra support with Spiritomb and storm drain Cradily. Couple these fun competitive romps with its awesome design inspirations, and they've easily become one of my favorite Pokemon lines.

How GREAT was Heatran ACTUALLY?!

SNESLIVE

Cofagrigus has a soft spot for me because of the Egyptian motif. Need more Egyptian themed pokemon.

Gen 7 NU: Ha, we're not scared of any overglorified coffins. We got a cat named Incineroar. What could Cofagrigus do now?

Cofagrigus: Okay then. returns with a vengeance

Gen 7 NU: I TAKE IT BACK! I TAKE IT BACK! PLEASE GOD I TAKE IT BACK!!!!!

I love Cofagrigus. One of my favourite Pokemon of all time and my fave Pokemon from gen 5. The design was stunning and creepy, and the cry was ear pleasing. Wish it got a decent healing move though. If it had that it would have been soooo good in Gen 5.

Allow me to present my own cofagrigrus sets, as cofagrigrus is one of my favorite unova, ghost, and defensive Pokemon in one package

Note, all of these are gen 8, as it gave cofagrigrus one of its greatest moves:

Will o wisp
Hex
Body press
Pain split

The thing about pain split I've learned, is, the lower your hp STAT, the more effective pain split is at draining HP and healing your own HP

So, neglect any investment into hp and dump it into defense and special attack

Focus on hitting physical attackers, burn them, use pain split to lower their health if necessary, then hit hard with either a stab 130 base damage hex, or with the most perfect coverage move possible, coming off of it's stellar 427 defense stat

No need for boosts, as, pain split can act as an attack itself, with hex and body press being easy clean up, with will o wisp to help facilitate all of it by boosting your survivability and damage over time

An offensive wall if you will

Will o wisp
Iron defense
Body press
Pain split

This is more catered to it's defensive qualities, clearly, by making it one of the hardest physical walls in the game to break, with it's unique access to ability nulification, plus, any physical dark types, with an iron defense, becomes pure food thanks to body press

Have fun and enjoy, should cofagrigrus get some way to heal and heal status simultaneously, it'll join my team permanently over sandaconda

Drake Johnson

how broken would a pokemon whose ability is to regain 1/16 of it's health every turn it stays off the field?

Anhur

with how many common vgc names show up in these videos like wolf i wonder if a more vgc focused video could work. talking about how meta changed or specific players 🤔

HannibalKantter

One thing about Runerigus is that unlike Mummy, which makes the Pokemon that hits you get that ability, Wandering Spirit trades it for your foe's ability. This can be used in order to troll your opponent with Regigigas or Archeops, for example. And it would had been awesome to pair with Slaking, if Pursuit (and Slaking itself) hadn't been cut from Gen 8

TheHero136

Let’s hear it for a Gengar remake! It is October!

The gen 6 story is heartwealming

how good was rotom actually!

I found Cofagrigus design silly at 1st but it was one of those rare Gen V mons that got a excellent design transition into 3D. Cofagrigus will always be that low tier ghost type that can immediately turn the tables on hyper offense and balance teams not prepared for it.

It stinks that Runerigus was so bad in execution much like Dusknoir. They're both lore is rich, and their designs are incredible. Golurk and Decidueye are far better as a physical attacking ghost types while Cofagrigus, Jellicent, Pallosand, and Dusclops were far superior defensive ghost types. Runerigus could only be fixed through a typing change. I was hoping it was going to be a dark/ghost type before release but maybe it can find use through terastalizing if it is in Scarlet/Violet.

What Runerigus and Cofagrigus need are reflect type, and recover. These moves would allow them to bypass their established weaknesses while also providing much needed longevity throughout the match to cripple as many physical attackers as possible.

Complete Buffoon

My favorite guy 🙂

I wonder, next week, will we finally learn about the competitive history of another Ghost type? One with an HP stat so high, it's only matched by Giratina. How GOOD (or bad) was Drifblim ACTUALLY?

Existing Person

I have been waiting for this forever! I will bask in its glory

JohnnyNumber11

Huge oppurtunity missed, to say at the beginning "the Patreons have spooken" 🙁

nya69

i often run a max attack max hp AV set on runerigus, it can switch into almost any move in the game, take another hit and do some insane damage

Nick Edmondson

Ah! My favorite ghost-type 💜

Matthew Ross

I'm hoping Gourgeist is the Halloween special this year. It's a pumpkin, which makes it fit a lot better.
