Bahrain is connected to the Arabian Peninsula by a series of bridges and causeways named the King Fahd Causeway. Bahrain shares maritime borders with Iran, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. With an area of 741 km², the island nation is slightly larger than Singapore (699 km²), or 3.5 times the size of Washington, DC.
Bahrain spans some 760 square kilometres (290 sq mi), and is the third-smallest nation in Asia after the Maldives and Singapore. The capital and largest city is Manama.
