Hey lew, let me break this down for ya. I work for Verizon. So we do these “BOGO” deals all the time. The “free phone” has to be a new line of service. So if your a current customer and just want to upgrade 2 lines, the BOGO doesn’t apply. If you do add a line of service to get it, that device has to remain active on YOUR account for the full 24 months as the “free phone” is still done in 24 monthly payments but Verizon credits the amount of the phone every month. So if the phone costs $50 per month on device payment, there will be a credit every month for $50. But if that phones device id shows up on another account or you get rid of that new line of service, Verizon charges you the remaining balance of the phone. They do this because we used to give them the full amount of the phone upfront but then people would just go and sell it somewhere and then Verizon made no money off of the service. So they had to do device payments and credit for 24 months to ensure the free phone stayed on the account for 24 months. Still a great deal. They normally do these BOGO deals on like the cheaper flagship phone. So if you buy a s10+ then you can get the price of the s10e off of any Samsung flagship phone. ($750) hope this all makes sense!

Looking at a comments where people complaining on Verizon for the amount charging on the unlimited plans in the contract period makes me smile about the privilege we enjoy here in India.
I am happy that I have a data cap of 2.9 GB per day here in India .. ie .1.5 GB normal cap+400MB for recharging through the service provider's own app+1GB for upgrading to 4G handset (for 30 days only though ,I put the Sim in a feature phone for a while switched back and they thought I upgraded to 4G handset)
All these things for just Rs.399 for 84 days including free unlimited calls within the country and 100SMS . And 399 is just below 6 dollars

Nothing is free. You also need to add additional line with will cost you extra monthly payments and you need to keep that new line for a while.
