If you have gained root access to your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro then installing the new OTA update could prove to be a challenge. Remember, we needed to disable VERITY and VERIFICATION when using Magisk and installing that new OTA update will enable them again.

That is, unless you install the new security update in a very specific way.

In this video I show you the entire step by step process for how to update your Pixel 6 while rooted and how to keep all of your personal data intact during the process.

As of right now, this update does break root Magisk. But the developers behind the app have already begun working on a new update to the Magisk app.

Thank you for going through this in detail. It's hard to put all the pieces together following the forums.

Also, with Magisk 23016 installed, I don't think you have to delete the vbmeta_..img, or add disable verity/vertification. command to the bat. I only removed the -w from the bat and skipped the rest, and it seems to have worked great.

Does this method work with the new January
update?

FlyORdieInAfire

Thanks for posting. I ran the parts of the bat by hand. Installed latest canary for magisk and didn't have issues getting root back. Did not lose data like you said. Thanks!

If I don't see the device number in the december 2021 updates what should i do?

sitnlow4life

Is this needed if I am not rooted , but bootloader is unlocked ?

Edmundo Vázquez-Ramírez

Which build version does one flash for a Google Store bought unlocked version being used on a US carrier? Is it 016.A1 or .017? Thanks in advanced!

Mr. Johnson

My phone- Pixel 6, wiped anyways.

So wait… It's not keeping the root by the end of your video – I think your title is a bit misleading.

Does the latest Magisk, which you have used, work with GPay?

Justin the cornholio

You delete the -w in the edit page

I'm new to this whole vbmeta verity stuff, so this method is actually very easy to complete
