Lawn Renovation '22 // Part 3 – Topdressing and the 'Insurance Policy'

The USGA sand has arrived from Corridor Sands and it’s time to topdress. I’ll show you how you can use a ride on mower to help level your topdress. I also talk you through the ‘insurance policy’ products that are essential to protecting your lawn after all the hard work and effort of a lawn renovation.
The insurance policy includes applying a preventative insecticide as well as a pre-emergent herbicide. These are best coupled with a soil wetter to ensure even distribution in the soil. After you water them in, it’s time to relax and watch your lawn come back better than ever!

Topdress – USGA AmendMAX blend from Corridor Sands (located Northern Gold Coast).
They do bulk sand orders (5m3+). If you’re after smaller amounts, Affordable Scapes in Yatala and Helensvale Landscape Supplies also stock these USGA products.

Lawn Grub Prevention (Acelepryn) –
Various retailers carry the Acelepryn range in both liquid and granular options. You can also get this product under a different name in Bunnings –

Weed Prevention (Ronstar) –
Retailers carry a range of weed preventative products (pre-emergent herbicides). I used Ronstar in this video as I am also trying to grow sprigs in bare areas. If your lawn is healthy and you are not concerned about root pruning (your turf is established and you don’t have bare areas), I would suggest you look at Barricade/Spartan instead as they will prevent Paspalum as well and they have greater longevity in the soil.

How do you plan on keeping on top of the paspalum in your yard if the pre emergent won’t control it?

I seem to be fighting an ever increasing amount of it, that’s even with pre emergent down

Great content! I'm excited to have another lawn channel to follow. I can't believe how much sand you put down and the speed of the recovery, so quick! Great job. It will be looking great very soon at this rate. You have your work cut out with such a big area, but you are smashing it!
Is that the silvan 12 litre rechargeable sprayer from the big green shop? How does it go? I'm in the market and think it's could be a good option. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Looking forward to the next vid. 😀

Was more worried about that power line tbh

Terry Maggacis

Thanks for that.

Hi. Really liking you’re content.

Just wondering with kikuyu how much can you top dress over the top? I have some really uneven spots and was thinking to go 50/70mm in them and then 10mm over the rest of the lawn.

Would that be ok?

The 2 week difference is unreal, have you been cutting with the ride on until most of the sand is gone and then you'll Goto your reel mower?

Also where has that colour come from !!! 🔥🔥 If I remember your only put down granular soil amendments in part 2?

tu-tone tone

it's looking good 2 weeks after. some good colour in there.
