The Bangladesh-India maritime boundary was pending since 1974. Since the waters are not delimited in the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh cannot explore and exploit certain areas because they are disputed. This maritime boundary dispute was raised by Bangladesh in 2009 at the International Tribunal on the Law of the Maritime (UNCLOS) of the United Nations. Maritime boundary dispute between India and Bangladesh as per UNCLOS Award which was decided in July 2014.
