To put this in a context most people can connect with. The Mythbusters did a video on home water heaters blowing up. Untill the safety valve was mandated they would occasionally PoP!

I thought the Barham – which capsized and exploded following a torpedo attack – was torn apart from shells/cordite in the after magazines and shell room for her 15" guns, or from the adjacent 4" magazines communicating with these powder stores.
It is possible that the initial explosion was a boiler, but Merlin Burrows indicated a magazine explosion with their announcement of the locating and initial survey of the wreck, and that was the contemporary description of the explosion seen in the recorded film of her loss.
Enjoyed another Maritime Monday. 👌 Thanks
Good to see you enjoying your day off, Happy Chuseok Day.
Would you ever cover the Sewol Ferry disaster?
Imagine the PTSD/shell shock some of them must have suffered getting out of a prison after being defeated in a battle with all sorts of horrible violence and then you think it's all over and the boilers go off like bombs. Make no wonder they panicked, the poor fellas.
I want you to know how much I needed the laugh from the boomer moment. Thank you ❤️❤️
Interesting!! Such a sad tragedy
Yay! I suggested this one multiple times! Thank you for sharing this historical tale!!!
Hey Jeff
This is such a sad and unnecessary tragedy.
I find maritime stories very interesting; probably because my ancestors survived their ship running aground on the Orkney Islands while immigrating from Germany. They were very lucky, as there were no lives lost.
Ah, Maritime Monday. Best day for enlightening me on the failings of mankind when it comes to the waters.
I do have to commend the captain for going down with his ship this time, though. Certainly was no punk ass Schettino or Lee.
For the algorithm
Love maritime Mondays!
Love maritime Monday!! Need some merch 👖🚓
I don’t think most people realize how big the Mississippi River is. It is enormous. Thanks for the stream and sorry I missed it live. Sorry about your buddy, too.
