I have the Google Pixel 7 Pro here and in today’s video I’ll be showing you how to gain root access to the entire Pixel 7 series of smartphones. This process does require a PC since we need to flash a modified init_boot.img file using a simple Fastboot command.

But before we can begin, there are a number of things we have to set up ahead of time.

For example, we cannot complete this Pixel 7 root tutorial until we have successfully unlocked the bootloader. I have covered this process in a separate video, which you’ll find linked in the video description below.

Our PC needs to have ADB and Fastboot tools installed on it so that we can execute the required Fastboot command. IF you’re not familiar with how to get these tools on your computer, check the video description as well and you’ll find a link to a program that will install it for you.

We also need to sideload the APK for the Magisk application, which should be downloaded directly from the developer’s GitHub page. This will also be linked down below as well. If you’re unfamiliar with how to sideload an APK file on Android, I can help you complete that part of the tutorial as well.

And lastly, we need to download the firmware from Google’s Factory Images website that matches the same build you’re currently running on your Google Pixel 7 device.

So here we have the firmware file that I downloaded from Google earlier this morning. This file needs to be extracted, which I have already done using a program called 7zip.

That will give us a set of files that also includes a compressed file which needs to be extracted as well. And the init_boot.img file that we need is going to be found after we decompress that file.

Now take this init_boot.img file and copy it to your Google Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro so that we can modify it with the Magisk application.

We can do that by opening up the Magisk app, tapping the Install button from within the Magisk section, and then choose the “select and patch a file” option. This will bring up a file browser which we can use to navigate to where we copied that init_boot.img file to.

After the file has been modified, we’re told that Magisk has created a new file within the same folder. It should be named something like magisk_patched with some letters/numbers after it.

And we need to copy or move that magisk_patched file from our smartphone and put it on our PC within the same folder as our ADB and Fastboot tools.

Now let’s boot the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro into Fastboot Mode and then connect it to the PC with a USB cable.

Open up a Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, or a Terminal window within the same folder as our ADB & Fastboot tools.

fastboot flash boot filename.img

After that file has been flashed to the Pixel 7 series, we can go ahead and start the phone back up so that it boots into Android like normal. The first thing we want to do after the phone boots back up is to open up the Magisk application. It likely needs to complete the installation by performing a few more steps, which require the phone to be rebooted again.

We can even install a program like Root Checker to verify that root has been installed correctly.

That wraps up the newer process of how to root the Google Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones using Magisk.

I rooted mine even before you uploaded this. Not many modules for magisk 25.2 with this phone.

can't wait for my pixel 7 to arrive. 🙂
for those with beta builds the process is the same.

I've been watching your channel waiting for this tutorial. Thanks!
Also, is there a chance of getting a video for updating after root?

Thank you once again for making these kinds of videos. I'm glad to see the new Tensor chip doesn't stop us from having the option for root access. I'm looking forward to using this tutorial once I receive my Pixel 7 Pro.
