I have the Redmi Note 12 from Xiaomi right here and today I want to show you the entire process of how we can unlock the bootloader of this device.
#XiaomiRedmi #RedmiNote12 #RedmiNote12Pro
This official process requires us to have a free account with Xiaomi, it is dependant on us having an active mobile data account, and will also take hours or days of waiting since we first need to request bootloader unlock access before the bootloader is allowed to be unlocked.
We will also need to download the Xiaomi Mi Unlock tool for this request to be sent in. I’ll be including a link to this program in the video description below.
For those with other variants of this series, this tutorial will also work on the Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro+, and the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition.
The first thing we’re going to need to do is enable Developer Mode. Once enabled, we need to go into the Developer Options menu so that we can enable the OEM Unlocking toggle.
Now, we need to log into your Xiaomi Mi account from the top of the Settings app here. This is the same account you need to log into on the phone and you cannot unlock the bootloader until you are signed in here.
The next step is to insert our SIM card into the device. After the SIM card has been inserted, it may take a few minutes before the mobile data connection has been made.
We also need to disable WiFi before the request is sent in, so let’s do that now. Once that has been disabled, we can then to go back into the hidden Developer Options menu, scroll down a little bit, and then select the Mi Unlock Status option.
You may see this permission request pop-up appear. This needs to be agreed to before we can add our account from here. You’ll need to wait until you see the “success” message appear at the bottom. If you get an error or something that says failed, try it again to see if it goes through.
Once the account has been added successfully, we then need to boot the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 into Fastboot Mode.
With the Redmi Note 12 Pro in Fastboot Mode, let’s connect it to the PC with a USB cable and then open up the Xiaomi Mi Unlock tool on the computer.
We now have to log into our Xiaomi Mi account from here. And this needs to be the same account we logged into on our smartphone.
After you have all of this set up, go ahead click the Unlock button right here and confirm that you actually want to complete the Redmi Note 12 bootloader unlock process. This needs to be confirmed twice before the Mi Unlock tool will try to process the request.
And remember, this is usually just a request to unlock the bootloader. We are likely going to need to wait X number of hours before the bootloader can actually be unlocked.
Make note of how many hours are displayed in this message here. And then reboot the Redmi Note 12 back into Android.
Now we are going to need to wait (that many hours). After that time has passed, we then need to boot the device back into Fastboot Mode. Connect it to the PC with a USB cable and then use the Mi Unlock tool to unlock the bootloader.
Just be sure that you don’t remove the Mi account from the phone. . .and don’t mess with the Mi Unlock Status section of the Developer Options menu either. If we try to initiate that process again during the waiting period, it could reset the number of hours we have to wait before the bootloader can be unlocked.
You are safe to remove the SIM card from the phone though, if you need to use it in another device during this time period.
