The Australian Defence Force provided maritime surveillance support to Vanuatu and Kiribati to help detect and deter illegal fishing activity in the Pacific during Operation SOLANIA in August 2022.
Operation SOLANIA is the ADF’s contribution to maritime surveillance within the Pacific region and supports the Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency’s (FFA) Operations Rai Balang, Tui Moana, Island Chief, and Kuru Kuru.
In the third Operation Solania for 2022, the ADF supported the FFA’s Operation Island Chief, deploying a Royal Australian Air Force C-27J Spartan to Vanuatu, and a KA350 King Air to Kiribati to support the protection of their respective exclusive economic zones.
