The pictures described in this tilt impersonate Native Americans, their homes, and activities. The images are from the records of 15 Government agencies within the holdings of the still Picture Branch ( RRSS ) of the National Archives and Records Administration. Most are from the records of the Bureau of indian Affairs ( Record Group 75 ), the Army Signal Corps ( Record Group 111 ), the Smithsonian Institution ( Record Group 106 ), and U.S. Geological Survey ( Record Group 57 )

Reading: Pictures of Native Americans

All of the pictures described in the list are either photograph or copies of artworks. Any token not identified as an artwork is a photograph. Whenever available, the mention of the photographer or artist and the date of the detail have been given. This information is followed by the National Archives Identifier act ( NAID ). The selected photograph are in the populace sphere .
The pictures are grouped by subject, like children, dances, fish, games/recreation, etc. english names of individuals have been used, with native or secondary designations in parentheses. Tribal name calling equally specific as possible have been incorporated into the descriptions where known and where allow and an index by tribe follows the list .
Captions for and the terms used to describe the photograph in this list were created at or about the time each persona was made. Consequently, some of the terms used at the prison term may now be considered to be outdated, inaccurate, derogative, disrespectful, or culturally insensitive. national archives and records administration does not alter, edit, or modify original captions, as they are part of the historic record and reflect and document the standard speech, attitudes, and biases at the clock.
