Each month, Google prepares new OTA updates for its current generation of smartphones. These updates are typically focused on fixing major security concerns but they can also bring some new features to the devices as well. It’s always advised to install these updates each time you see they are available and the company does a good job at notifying you when these major OTA updates are available.

However, the company also works on creating a different set of software updates that are not specific to the smartphone firmware itself. These updates are called Google Play System Updates as they are pushed out through the backend of the Google Play Store. These updates are not installed from the Play Store application, though.

The company also does a horrible job at prompting you to install them and you have to initiate the install by finding an option buried among the vast number of menus in the Settings application.

So this video is a reminder to all owners of the Google Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro to manually install these updates.

Google announces these updates in its support document website, and the changes range from new features to connectivity fixes, and can even include some bug fixes related to account management, security, and being able to update various services that your phone uses every day.

To download and install these Google Play System Updates on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, we first need to open up the Settings application and then check the About section of the phone. Now, look for the Android Version menu and tap it so that you can see some details regarding the version that is currently running on your device.

It’s here that you’ll see an option labeled Google Play System Update. And it’s here that you’ll be told which version of the Google Play System Update you have installed on your device.

Google has a history of pushing these out at the start of each month, but there are some instances where you’ll find that an additional update gets released with some new changes and fixes.

And since we don’t get a notification prompt to install these updates, some people may find that they can go multiple months without installing a new Google Play System Update.

So if you’re noticing that the date displayed here is off by two or more months, then know that you have to come back here again after installing a new update to get the next update downloaded and installed as well.

Because of this, it’s best to get into the habit of checking if there is a new Google Play System Update every now and then. And even after you go and install one of these new updates, to go back and recheck if there’s a another one needing to be installed.

And just like with most updates released by Google, it can take some time before the newest version is made available for your device. So even though the company has announced the Google Play System Update for December, your device may still be on the October for November version.

Mine shows October but when I install the update it wants to download and install over and over again after I reboot and check it. It finally updated after 3 times.

They already have lineage os beta 20 for pixel 7/pro they have it on XDA forum. If you look for google pixel 7/pro. I'm a Pro user and love it. But the only issue I found is with the finger print censor.
