Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs S22 Ultra | What's Changed?

Hands-on review of Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, comparing vs last year’s S22 Ultra to see how the camera tech, performance, specs and features have changed. Or not changed, in many cases! The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will cost £1249 for 256GB, £1399 for 512GB and a whopping £1599 for the 1TB smartphone in the UK. Release date is Feb 17.

The Samsung S23 Ultra’s main upgrade is that camera tech, with a fresh 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor for photos and video. That’s vs the 108MP sensor on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, upgrading the 9-in-1 pixel binning to 16-in-1. Those other camera lenses on the S23 Ultra haven’t changed, but you can shoot 8K video at 30FPS now. And now the selfie camera is a 12MP effort.

Performance has been upgraded to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which should mean smoother gaming experiences and improved energy efficiency. So while the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra sports a 5000mAh battery again, the battery life will hopefully improve vs the S22 Ultra.

The rest of this 2023 Galaxy smartphone remains the same, for the most part, as far as specs and design go. So what’s your early thoughts on the S23 Ultra? Stay tuned for an unboxing and full review including an in-depth camera test soon!

Yep I saw what he drew there

As an industrial electrician… high fidelity and low light pics are super handy. I have a S22 Ultra now, which does have a pretty good battery life, but if this one is more efficient then even better. The clock speed is a pretty decent upgrade, at least on paper. I'd say most users probably won't benefit from it. I wish phone manufacturers would start putting the speakers facing you, rather than out the top and bottom, tho. I vaguely remember a phone back in the mid 2000s that had that.

I am happy that I'm trading my S10e and getting enough to almost pay this one off. Thanks for the comparison!

Nice red hat Tech! 🤣🤣

I currently have a s10+ 512. I walked into best buy today to window shop and saw that we're now in the s23 models. I've taken up some photography but I don't have any fancy camera and my s10 can only do so much. This looks like a worthy upgrade since I personally prefer Samsung to Apple.

This awesome phone

I think I might get the 23 plus but this is a great phone

I thought the s23 ultra would excite me, coming from the s21 ultra, but I'm not impressed. Google however excited me last year with the 7 and I'm excited to see what the 7a brings, even the 8. My s21 ultra is dwindling down in price every few days so I'm eager to change to a new phone. Even though this is good I won't be spending so much on a new phone compared to what I did on the ultra, it's just not worth it. The OnePlus has a great price and great specs but their UI puts me off. 😔

Where you get those cool wallpapers from

Wha about the shutter lag when taking pics? Did they finally fix that?

Keeping my S22 ultra,it's more than anyone needs in a phone! Prices are just silly! Not enough to change,S22 takes decent enough pictures!

What's you wallpaper?

Okay, so this is the Samsung I was waiting for. I
have used a lot of Samsung phones and although
most of them are great you know they are not
consistent in their performance including camera
performance. This year it seems like Samsung
has finally come up with a product that can be as
consistent as an iphone.

I am using a note 20 with Exynos (can you
imagine) and my mind is wanting me to switch to
it but can't. Haha
Good comparison btw.

I usually upgrade every 3 years, the galaxy s22 ultra and the galaxy s23 ultra can use the same Case?

B-Nice

I think if you still have a Note 20 Ultra there is no need to update to this phone they both do the same thing the only difference is the updating process

Yeah I agree with most comments on here, I am totally happy with my s22u, I think Samsung need to stop as all that's going up is just the price and people can't afford it with living crisis in place 😬

So you mean to tell me Samsung took the apple route and dropped the same phone as last year with one improvement? This can’t be the same Samsung that laughed when apple removed the charger from the box and then proceeded to do the same thing…Samsung is officially an android powered iPhone 😅

Yes Chris. The Design is like the old experia or what the xperia should have looked liked. I've been with sony for a while and switch to the note10 cause i love the boxy design. Now i'm on s22U and will hold on to it for a while. Hopefully this will last until S26U. I just wish some cases from the s23U will fit on s22U as the dimensions are identical except for the button placements, mic and camera size.

I think I'll upgrade from my S22 Ultra once it stops getting One UI and Android updates. It's still got a few more years of life left.

KrazyTim21 88

I love my S21 Ultra …especially because it seems like they got rid of directors view and that is one badass feature my s21 ultra has 🙂

AL Surya

are you have A Family Connection with Paul Blackthorne? (the arrow Co Stars). Looks Similar to me

Good to see Indian movie trailer on an international review 😊

I have a galaxy S22U and im gonna keep it for 5 years. There isnt anything thats incredibly unqiue to upgrade for. Plus, im not dishing out over 1k every year. Thats crazy.

Corey

My s20 fe on Android 10 is the gold standard for me. I'm keeping it for another 2 years
