Intro: I have been wearing and testing both the brand new Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 4 at the same time for a week now. And, I must say, I am quite disappointed with the new Galaxy Watch 5, because as you will see in this video, it does not outperform the Watch 4 in many of my tests, and it even underperforms in some cases. So, even though in my full review of the Watch 5, it seemed that it had improved compared to the Watch 4; it seems as though software improvements might be the main reason why the Watch 5 initially appeared to have performed better than the Watch 4. In this video I will show you the results of all my tests, and you can decide for yourself what you think. Specifically, I will compare the heart rate tracking accuracy, GPS tracking, oxygen saturation measurements, sleep tracking, step counting and battery life of the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 4. With that I hope to help you decide whether you would like the buy the Watch 4, Watch 5, or neither.
Conclusion:
The general conclusion seems to be that the Watch 5 is not performing significantly better than the Watch 4 in any of the tests that I did. Quite the opposite, in some of the tests it actually seemed to perform slightly worse than the Watch 4. So, does that mean you should not buy the Galaxy Watch 5? Well, I guess that depends on the price difference between the Watch 4 and Watch 5. If the Watch 5 is not that much more expensive, it might be the better choice, since it mostly performs similarly, but also has a temperature sensor, and will likely be supported longer by Samsung. However, if the price difference is quite big, I personally do not see a reason why the Galaxy Watch 4 would not be good enough, since again, it mostly performs similarly to the Watch 5. Overall, I am disappointed that the Watch 5 does not seem to do any better in any of my tests than the Watch 4.

How about the watch 5 pro? I think it would perform better in gps since Samsung claims that watch 5 pro is made for outdoor sporting eg hiking. Hope you will also test it, I would like to know are there any differences between watch 4 , watch 5 and watch 5 pro. Thanks for your efforts again, it helps a lot when I considering buy the new galaxy watch or not.

So I guess I'm not too crazy for wearing an apple watch with an Android phone.
One ui 4.5 for the watch 4 is not out yet I wonder if that would improve things further. I'm not sure if watch 5 comes with 4.5 out of the box. But both watches run the same chip and I assume both should perform equally.
Are both of the watches tested in the video 40mm or 45? I can't remember.
Regardless I'm surprised the watch 5 has lesser battery life.

We live under recession. It's understandable companies keep the same design and cut some corners. GW4 design is a beloved one and improvement like 60mah more battery, slightly sharper screen and better fit on hand are welcome. Also keeping the design steady making the old band compatible. Tech Youtubers crying because radical redesigns draw interest and more views

I own a GW4 Classic and wait for an upgrade and see what's the improvement on GW5, but Samsung just give me the worse performance watch with a higher price (don't mention they take away the rotating bezel), good job Samsung.

My Watch 5 has better heart rate monitoring, step counting accuracy and sleep tracking than the 4, with substantially better battery life. It also charges faster.

Really need a performance testing video for fire boltt brand smartwatches, which got good customer reviews for its accuracy in amazon than some of same or more priced hauwei and mi brand watches/bands, so want to know where it is going to get place in your performance chart for heart rate monitoring especially

The thing that gets me, is that the GW4 still has major bugs. My watch has the issue where it will periodically remove itself from my Wear App, requiring a full reset to reconnect.
I hope that the GW5 doesn't mean they abandon updates for the GW4
I suspect the Watch 5 is targeted at people who are ready for an upgrade from an earlier Galaxy Watch or non Samsung products rather than people who have the Watch 4. I know I see zero reason to trade in my Watch 4, which came as a free add on with my purchase of a Galaxy S22 Ultra.

With the GPS test did you use the "more accuracy" option on the watches, and also when doing the step test did you update within the app which hand the watch was worn on?
Shocking and very embarrassing if I was Samsung. It was definitely a horrible mistake to not wait for new watch processors coming out in a few months.
I don't know how to give this man appropriate credit for his reviews. Outlets like cnet and tomsguide/Android authority and the multitude of YouTubers just seem to copy each other's reviews, yet no one tells me how well the sensors work and certainly not in such a controlled and repeatable/well documented manner. Good job man. I hope you get the visibility your content deserves.
I'd like to offer a counter point that software improvements for the 4 after launch are an indication that the watch 5 is a long term sure bet. It will get an extra year of improvements, if not more due to the platform change. Now you can only review what's already there, but as a consumer it'd be a worthwhile consideration.
Though for me I really don't see the value of these and other two day battery life watches. Seems like a lot of annoyances for little benefit over a Garmin or Huawei.
