Sexy….I'll take 5
Why not build a commercial airliner derivative of the Hercules?
Whilst the A400M is replacing the C-130 in the transport role, the good old Herc has been used for a variety of other roles and is certainly NOT totally obsolete. If the RAF starts to use the A400 for transport then theres no reason why the existing C-130J airframes couldnt be re-fitted and used as a maritime patrol plane.
Will work out alot cheaper than the P-8 too.
great salesman.
Heh, the music is from "Homeworld"
(Can't do a normal comment reply, again so..) The P8 is thought to be too expensive, and high capability fixed ASW and ASu(surface)W is not a priority. And as you said what they're trying to do is build up UAV and other smaller fixed wing ISTAR capability, and it's believed a lower ASW + ASuW capability (compared to P8) MPA will purchased. Such a shame with Nimrod MRA4 – a highly capable aircraft which was near the end of development and production, and very significant job, industry, UK image..
So a UK order of less than a dozen aircraft in 2014/15/16? Such a shame the UK defence industry has had immense bad luck and has had diminished so massively, due as always with defence matters, politicians, and completely knowledge lacking general public, oh and one must thank aggressive US defense industry, and allowing others to build up their defence industry while the UK reduced theirs. But the UK is probably the most progressive country in the world, and the one closest to type 1 civilisat
