PSC’s Vet Tech Program gains full accreditation

• In February 2018, Pensacola State College’s Veterinary Technology program received full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Committee on Veterinary Technical Education and Activities.

The Vet Tech platform, which has held probationary accreditation since 2013, prepares students to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam ( VTNE. ) Once a scholar passes the VTNE, they are eligible to practice as a Credentialed Vet Tech ( CVT ) in the state to which they apply. In the past five years, 64 students have graduated from the Pensacola State program .

Collegiate High selected FBLA Outstanding Chapter of Year
Pensacola State ’ sulfur Collegiate High Future Business Leaders of America chapter was named the Outstanding FBLA Chapter of the year during the 2018 District 1 Conference Awards Ceremony .
Two members placed first base in contest and advanced to the state conference. Two other chapter members placed second and will serve as vote delegates at the league .

Pensacola State College was named a 2018 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media. This is the ninth consecutive year, PSC has received the designation awarded to U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools that dedicate resources to military students to ensure success in the classroom and after commencement .

Pensacola State College unveils new Charles W. Lamar Studio
A standing-room only herd turned out for the ribbon carving and thousand opening celebration of Pensacola State College ’ second Charles W. Lamar Studio on Feb. 20 .

Located adjacent to the Anna Lamar Switzer Center for Visual Arts, the 11,000-square-foot studio apartment was made potential by a $ 1 million endowment from the Lamar, Reilly and Switzer families in 2014. Campus Safety Month
Beginning March 1 with the Safety Month Kickoff and Law Enforcement Panel, casual events followed including workshops, discussions and demonstrations designed to foster base hit awareness. A “ Safety Day ” was held at each campus and representatives from local patrol and ardor departments, the Red Cross, Escambia Emergency Management, the Arrive Alive Tour Drunk & Distracted Driving Simulator, and Lakeview Center ’ randomness SHAPE ( Substance-abuse, HIV Assessment & Prevention Education ) bus topology offered a variety of learning opportunities for students, staff and staff. loose food, t-shirts, and other giveaways were a big hit arsenic well .

Rainy day video wins PSC baseball team field tarp from Blue Wahoos 
A mental picture may be worth a thousand words but a television turned out to be a home campaign for the Pensacola State Pirates baseball team .
The Pirates beat out baseball organizations from Arizona to Georgia to win a field tarpaulin from the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Blue Wahoos received a new tarpaulin for its seventh season, and held a television contest to find a home for the old one which was still in dear condition .
The 30-second television had to be posted to the baseball team ’ s Facebook page with the Blue Wahoos being tagged in the post. The contest ran from late February until March 2 .
Pensacola State ’ s “ fishing on the field ” video won the contest and featured Pirates ─ Chad Bryant, Jared Hatch, A.J. Yates, Aaron Ginn, J.R. Breeden and Josh Rulli “ fishing ” on a very wet plain on a showery game day .

HB 75 advances ‘military-friendly’ education opportunities
Gov. Rick Scott signed HB 75/Military Assistance Bill on April 6, which authorizes Pensacola State College to waive fees for active duty military students using tutelage aid. The bill unanimously passed the Senate and House on March 13 .
Beginning July 1, Florida College System institutions, which includes Pensacola State College, will be able to use the U. S. Department of Defense Military Tuition Assistance ( MTA ) program to waive any parcel of fees for student activities and services, fiscal help, technology, and capital improvements .
The military tutelage Program covers tutelage expenses for service members at postsecondary education institutions. There are presently 328 active duty military students enrolled in Pensacola State College who use MTA to pay for their education .

6 PSC students win ADDY awards at state gala, 2 advance to national competition 

• In April 2018, six Pensacola State College visual arts students earned three gold and five silver awards at the 57th Annual 4th District American Advertising Awards Gala in Orlando.

Kelly Bestgen won two gold awards while Alicia Kanuck won one gold award. The two mechanically advanced to the 2018 national competition .

PSC hosted statewide SkillsUSA conference April 30, May 1
Pensacola State College hosted the 2018 SkillsUSA Florida State Leadership and Skills Conference April 30 and May 1 .
The conference, along with the Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo, was held at the Pensacola Bay Center. The event attracted about 6,000 visitors and had a $ 3.8 million impingement on the local economy .
Thousands of Escambia County and Santa Rosa County students visited the Worlds of Possibilities Career Expo on April 30 and May 1. The exhibition included 12 hands-on interactional worlds, where more than 60 business and industry partners set up exhibitions .
At least 300 job seekers besides turned out for the Worlds of Possibilities Job Fair held April 30 on the Bay Center ’ mho third floor .
The College besides will host the 2019 and 2020 state conferences .

PSC faculty member earns First Diploma at Golden Key competition
Dr. Michael Coleman, a Pensacola State College staff member, was awarded First Diploma in the 2018 Golden Key Piano Composition Competition .
Coleman ’ s winning writing, “ Room 857, ” is written for solo piano. A Pensacola State accessory music teacher for more than 24 years, he will perform the piece in August at Ehrbar Hall in Vienna, and at Bӧsendorfer Hall at Mozarthaus during the Golden Key Music Festival at Vienna .

Pensacola State student receives KelbyOne scholarship
Pensacola State College scholar Kylie Crowell has won a scholarship to attend Photoshop World 2018 : A KelbyOne Conference .

PSC Family loses longtime faculty member – Bill Clover 
Longtime PSC ocular arts professor William “ Bill ” Clover passed away on May 7, 2018. well-known for his ceramic pottery, the Los Angeles native arrived at Pensacola State in 1966 – to work only a few years – or so he thought. alternatively, Bill spent more than 52 years, becoming the College ’ s longest-serving faculty penis .
He worked under five Pensacola State presidents : T. Felton Harrison, Horace “ Ed ” Hartsell, Charles A. Atwell, G. Thomas Delaino and presently, Ed Meadows. And over his career, he educated and influenced more than 10,000 students including parents, grandparents, grandchildren and great-grandchildren .
A generous liveliness, Bill volunteered at Manna Food Pantries for over a ten – helping the charity raise closely $ 300,000 during Pick a Bow, Fill a Bowl fundraisers. In 2014, he received the U.S. President ’ s Volunteer Service Award for contributing more than 7,000 hours of service to Manna. He besides was recognized for his make in creating more than 6,500 handcraft bowl for the fundraisers .
Bill is survived by his wife, Kathleen ; daughters, Kristen and Christi ; and one granddaughter, Katie .

Six Pensacola State College ocular arts students earned three gold and five silver awards at the 57th annual 4th zone american english advertising Awards Gala held April 14 in Orlando .
Kelly Bestgen won two amber awards while Alicia Kanuck won one aureate award. The two advanced to the 2018 national rival held June 8 in Chicago .
Silver ADDY winners – Zachary Blessing, Karli Kimmons, Darrian Montgomery and Hanna Peltier – can advance to the national rival, but the entrant is responsible for paying the applicable entry fee .

PSC athletic director to be inducted into FCSAA Hall of Fame
Pensacola State College Athletic Director Bill Hamilton will be inducted into the 2018 Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame .
This year is Hamilton ’ s 35th year in college athletics. twenty-nine of those years have been at Pensacola State where Hamilton was head baseball coach before retiring in 2010. He has been the college ’ s athletic conductor since 1999 .
With an overall record of 703 wins and 468 losses, Hamilton led the Pirates to their first-ever country baseball backing in 2004, and a sixth-place finish in the JUCO World Series where the team received the Tomas Howard Sportsmanship Trophy that like year .
For his efforts, he was named the FCSAA Coach of the Year, NJCAA Region VIII Coach of the year and the ABCA/Diamond Regional Coach of the year for NJCAA Division I .

Two Pensacola State College SkillsUSA student-members are among the best of the best after placing first at the organization ’ s national league .
Five other Pensacola State student-members placed third base and fourth in their competitions during the 54th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference held June 25-29 in Louisville, Kentucky .

Pensacola State College Outdoor Club Primitive Camping Trip
Twelve members of the Pensacola State College Outdoor Club experienced the venture of a life June 4 -9 during a leadership and skill-building primitive camp trip to Standing indian Mountain, barely north of Franklin, North Carolina in the Nantahala National Forest .
The students, who were all relative strangers before their excursion, worked together to set up campsites, climb mountains, rise trails, identify leaf and lifelike formations, explore old homesteads and navigate white water system raft .

Robinson Honors Program Scholars take service-learning trip to Costa Rica
A deputation of Pensacola State College students and staff spent several weeks touring and learning about Costa Rica – in the central american nation .
Six Robinson Honors Program Scholars along with 14 other Pensacola State students and three faculty members were share the July 3-12 service-learning stumble .

During the 10-day Robinson Honors Program Service Learning Trip, the group learned about sustainable farm practices, assisted with sea turtle conservation efforts, participated in the Cahuita e-bird plan, met and dined with the Bri Tribe and so much more, said Amber Carey, Robinson Honors Program coordinator .

“ This was our first tripper since the re-establishment of the Robinson Honors Program and we wanted to do something very unique with hands-on eruditeness, ” Carey said .

Jennie Belarmino named new PSC volleyball coach 
Jennie Belarmino has joined Pensacola State College ’ randomness athletic staff as the raw head volleyball coach. She replaces Chris Laird, who was the volleyball coach for eight seasons .
Before coming to Pensacola State, Belarmino was the head volleyball coach at Lake-Sumter State College in Leesburg for three years. While at Lake-Sumter, she recruited and trained a 2015 Mid-Florida Conference All-Conference player, an NJCAA Academic All-American, had eight players named to the MFC All-Academic Team and three players named FCSAA All-States .

Robinson Honors Program Scholars visit Costa Rica

A delegating of Pensacola State College students and faculty spent a couple of weeks touring and learning about Costa Rica – in the Central America area .

Former Pensacola State visual arts head bequeaths artwork to College
When Carl Duke retired as the steer of Pensacola State ’ s ocular arts department in 1987, a region of his heart remained at the College .
An award-winning artist, Duke continued to show his workplace in exhibits and tied loaned pieces from his personal collection to the College. Before he passed away on Aug. 1, the 87-year-old remember Pensacola State. He bequeathed a ample parcel of his art collection to the College .
More than 400 pieces were donated to Pensacola State with the stipulation the artwork be used to help ocular arts students further their department of education. a lot of the collection is artwork created by Duke ; however the bequest besides includes pieces him and his late wife, Jo Lynn, acquired during their travels and other pieces given to the match .

Duke, who worked at the College from 1957-1987, hired Clover and the two became lifelong friends. Throughout their lives, the two men much exchanged and gifted each other pieces of artwork. Many of the items in the auction include artwork that Clover gave to Duke .

PSC receives nearly $40,000 for scholarships from Florida Blue, the Helios Education Foundation, Bank of America, local supporters
Pensacola State College received closely $ 40,000 in August to help students pay for the cost of higher education .

Pensacola State celebrated College’s 70th anniversary in September
Pensacola State College celebrated its seventieth birthday with week of activities Sept. 10-14 at all of the campuses .

Sept. 13, 1948, is the official open date of the College which began in the Aiken Boarding House on the corner of Palafox and Cervantes Streets with 128 students. today, the College has grown to three campuses : Pensacola, Milton and Warrington and three centers : Century, Downtown and South Santa Rosa .

More than 100,000 graduates have earned associate, bachelor ’ south degrees angstrom well as work force certifications from the College. NASA astronaut Alan Poindexter, NASA engineer William Lawrence Peters, Sacred Heart Foundation President Carol Carlan and U.S. Army singer Antonio Giuliano are among the many outstanding Pensacola State graduates .

PSC student selected a Florida College System Scholar Student of the Month
Pensacola State College student Jennifer Ojeda was selected the Florida College System Chancellor ’ s Clark Maxwell Scholar of the Month for September .
The award recognizes outstanding FCS students who demonstrate leadership skills, academic success and/or commitment to residential district servicing. Students are recognized monthly by the Florida College System Chancellor with a $ 150 scholarship, certificate and highlighted in the newsletter .
Twenty-three years after graduating high school, Ojeda returned to further her postsecondary education at Pensacola State. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Management degree .
In 2017, Ojeda earned an consort degree in business administration at Pensacola State ─ graduating magna semen laude. She matriculated into the College ’ s Bachelor of Applied Science in commercial enterprise and management, where she has maintained a 4.0 mark distributor point average .
A Robinson Honors Program Scholar, Ojeda was recently inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the National Honor Society recognizing academician accomplishment in occupation, management and administration .

PSC Cyber Defense team wins second place at ITEN summit
Pensacola State College ’ s cybersecurity team recently took second place at the 2018 ITEN ( Innovation Technology Entrepreneurship Network ) Wired Summit held Oct. 1-2 at the Hilton Pensacola Beach .

Members of the PSC Cyber Defense Team are Justin Eldridge, Tyler Group, Patrick Owens, Marie Perry, Daniel Pieknik and Daniel Pitsenbarger. Adjunct professor Karin Carter is the team adviser .

This is the third gear year Pensacola State has placed at or near the acme in the ITEN Summit. In 2016, the College ’ s team won first place at the competition, and in 2017, the team captured moment rate .

United Way Day of Caring:  Pirates Give back
Pensacola State employees and students, along with the Pirates Baseball team, were at the Ronald McDonald House to remove the previous beds and install 48 donate beds in 26 guest rooms that provide a home away from home for families who travel to Pensacola to receive critical medical caution for their children .

A second group from Pensacola State volunteered at First City Art Center to assist with setting up their Pumpkin Patch Party by helping landscape the facility and setting up tables with over 1000 blow glass pumpkins for their largest fundraiser of the class .

Pensacola State signs Pathway USA articulation agreement with USA
Pensacola State College has become part of “ Pathway USA, ” a collaborative broadcast between the University of South Alabama and choice community and country colleges that creates a seamless passage to USA for transportation students who earn their associate degree ’ s degree. Pensacola State is the first Florida College System institution to join the program. The academic partnership will enable more PSC graduates to transfer to USA and earn their knight bachelor ’ mho degrees from the university .

Ground broken on East Wing of Pensacola State’s new STEM building
ground was broken Nov. 13 for the East Wing of Pensacola State College ’ s new STEM build up. construction on the first phase ( East Wing ) of the facility will begin in January – following the abatement and demolition of the existing Mary Ellison Baars Building. The East Wing will be home to the College ’ mho cybersecurity and mathematics programs. The cost for the East Wing is $ 13 million. The sum cost for the entire facility is projected to be $ 34 million. A construction start date has not been set for the second phase ( West Wing and second-floor connection ) .

PSC Virtual Tutoring Program wins Chancellor’s Best Practices Award
Pensacola State College was among four Florida College System institutions recently recognized for invention and excellence by Chancellor Madeline Pumariega .
Pensacola State received a Chancellor ’ sulfur Best Practice Awards for the Bellwether Virtual Tutoring Program which serves more than a 1,000 students each year. The program provides services to students who might not have access to traditional tutor methods by offering access to individualized services from any localization or device with an internet connection .
Florida Gateway College, North Florida Community College and Polk State College besides received 2018 Chancellor ’ mho Best Practice Awards from Pumariega. The four state colleges were honored at the AFC 69th Annual Meeting and Conference in Orlando .

Pensacola State College was recently awarded $ 300,000 as one of 57 grants announced by the U.S. Department of Justice ’ sulfur Office on Violence Against Women ( OVW ) .
OVW ’ s Grant to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus Program supports initiatives to implement comprehensive examination, coordinated responses to violent crimes on campus through partnerships with victim services providers and department of justice agencies .
Pensacola State ’ s Public Safety Department and Office of Institutional Diversity and Student Conduct will work collaboratively with Favor House of Northwest Florida, Legal Services of North Florida, and Lakeview Center Inc. to make all campuses and centers safer .

3 PSC baseball players move on to Division 1 programs
Three Pensacola State College student-athletes – Chad Bryant, D.J. Wilkinson and Ryan Brewer – will continue their acrobatic careers at the University of Alabama, Troy University and the University of West Florida, respectively .

• Bryant, a right-handed pitcher, will join the Crimson Tide for the 2019-2020 season. A Thomasville, Alabama, native, Bryant was selected in the 36th round of the 2018 MLB draft.
• Wilkinson, a right-handed pitcher, will play for the Trojans in 2019-2020. A Monticello, Florida, native, Wilkinson leads the Pirates in several pitching categories – wins (8), innings pitched (67.1) and strikeouts (73) during the 2017-2018 baseball season.
• Brewer, an infielder and pitcher, will play for the Argonauts in 2019-2020. An Ocoee, Florida, native, Brewer threw significant innings on the mound while batting .286 with two homeruns and 14 RBIs during the 2017-2018 Pirates baseball season.

Cantonment Rotary Club awards $500 scholarships to 2 culinary arts students 
The holiday gifts arrived a little early for two Pensacola State culinary arts students who each received $ 500 scholarships from the Cantonment Rotary Club .
Bob Thomas of the Cantonment Rotary Club awarded Phi Hoang Pham and Tiara Ruggs with the scholarships during a lunch deem Nov. 14 in the Molly McGuire Culinary Dining Room on the Pensacola campus .
The scholarships were godsends for both students – particularly Ruggs who plans to finally own a food truck .
A Mobile, Alabama native, Ruggs is in her beginning year in the College ’ s culinary arts program. The retire seasoned who served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force said she always had an sake in culinary arts but couldn ’ t take classes because of her make schedule .

Gulf Power pledges $150,000 to PSC for establishment of nonprofit training center 

• In December 2018, the Gulf Power Foundation pledged $150,000 to Pensacola State College to help establish training for nonprofit organizations’ professional staffs and boards.

The first $ 30,000 contribution will be used to develop Certified Fund Raising Executive courses on fund diversification, dining table exploitation, grant write, comprehensive examination campaigns, and donor-centered proposals and presentations .

PSC employees donate Hurricane Michael supplies to Gulf Coast State College
Pensacola State College employees donated food, cleaning supplies and personal manage items to Gulf Coast State College employees and students to help with their Hurricane Michael recovery efforts. Items were collected on the Pensacola, Milton and Warrington campuses and Century and South Santa Rosa centers for respective weeks. President Meadows appointed to DeSantis transition team
In December 2018, Pensacola State President Ed Meadows was tapped to join Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis and Lt. Gov.-elect Jeanette Nuñez transition education and work force advisory committee .
Meadows joined more than 40 others on the Transition Advisory Committee on Education and Workforce Development. The committee is comprised of a divers group of education experts, including traditional K-12 public school system leaders, education advocates, elected school board members, academics and current and former leaders of Florida ’ south higher education arrangement .

Luna Fine Art Gallery will present the curated solo show, “ Kristen Regan : Plastisphere, ” by Regan, an associate Pensacola State professor.
