In the year 1914, the world was two years removed from the horrendous disaster that was the RMS Titanic. A disaster just as great in magnitude would follow this year, but it’s often forgotten or not compared. Why is that? Stay tuned and discover the story of the RMS Empress of Ireland, the Forgotten Empress.

Fantastic video thank you!!!
He's baaaaaack (on shore)! Great video, so well narrated and the artwork is extraordinary!
FUCK YEAH HES BACK
This story is not forgotten by members of the Salvation Army, and the story was retold on the anniversary every year when I was a child.
I touched the empress of ireland's anchor
Only 4 children survived?! 😱😭
Green army🇮🇪
The parallels between the the sinking of RMS Empress of Ireland and the later SS Andrea Doria are chilling. Thankfully, there were far fewer casualties from the Doria collision.
Can you cover the SS Tuscania in a future episode? My grandpa survived it.
Glad to see a new post from you. Hopefully, you still have some plans for an April Fools episode? If you need a suggestion, perhaps the Serenity of Firefly?
The "Empress" is a serious case of bad luck, just like the "Lusitania" – both got hit where it hurt the most and went down astonishingly quick for their respective sizes.
Is it me, or is it almost invariably a Norwegian ship causing these accidents?
very interesting video! If you allow me to remark something – the imperial measurements units should not be used anymore in the United States. You may want to use the metric system instead. Thank you and keep making great videos! ❤
Great video. Only thing is 30:40 The city is pronounced like moose not mouse. I stayed in Rimouski once and they have a little museum next to the st lawrence.
Poor ole' Crippen still gettin' framed after all these years.
That new radar design is SICK! Please give my compliments to the channel artist!
Babe wake up, Maritime Horrors posted
7 dislikes? fuck you millenial scumbags !!!
Father Point = Point au Père pronounced Point o pair
Cape Chat = Cap Chat pronounced Cap shaw
Rimouski pronounced Ri-moo-ski
First the Empress Of Ireland. Then Halifax. Beware of Norwegains on the Canadian east coast.
What is the name of the music?
There's a very good museum dedicated to this wreck in Pointe-au-Père (aka "Father Point") that's well worth the visit – I've been there several times and know the Rimouski area (pronounced "Rimooski") reasonably well. Originally, the exposition was quite graphic with photos of dead victims and even a skull in a display case. Thankfully, the entire exhibit was reworked years ago to focus more on tragedy than death. Today, it's a highly recommended visit with lots to see and some truly great camping sites and rocky beaches to explore in nearby Bic, Quebec. There's also a submarine to visit (HMCS Onondaga), a botanical garden, a salmon hatchery, and the site of a massacre of Micmac natives (l'île au Massacre) that happened shortly before the arrival of Jacques Cartier. All in all, lots to visit as a vacation destination.
One thing to note however: If you go wading in this water in the month of May, your feet will go numb with cold within the first 30 seconds – take from someone who knows! It's very hard to imagine anyone surviving in this water for more than a few minutes. Anyway, great video!
Could you please cover the MV Derbyshire?
Bro I was just on here yesterday looking for new videos.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing.
Yesssss SO happy to see this video today 💜
Your storytelling is top notch. Your videos are the best. Thank you
What a horrifying way to go!
When I first read the title I thought this was going to be a video about the Empress of Britain, thinking “who could possibly forget the Empress of Ireland!!!!….But then I remembered I’m a huge ocean liner nerd and maybe 1 in 20 viewers here are as obsessed with late 19th and early 20th century merchant steamships as I am, and many likely don’t know about the Empress of Ireland disaster…..plus this IS “maritime horrors”, not “Sucessful steamships”. That said if anyone was particularly interested in or drawn to the ship featured here, she did have a sister named RMS Empress of Britain that served a respectable career as a (relatively) trouble free ship and was scrapped in 1930.
ur literally a goaterson for this.
I don't know why you wouldn't just run with all the water tight doors closed the whole time. Or at least they could at night, when most people are asleep… Seems like the passages that crew need to use, could have small doors they can open and close as they travel through.
