US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin the Third met with Philippine Senior Undersecretary and Officer in Charge of the Department of National Defense Carlito Galvez in Manila to reaffirm the unwavering alliance between the United States and the Philippines.
Secretary Austin also congratulated Secretary Galvez on his recent official appointment to head the Philippine Department of National Defense.
Secretary Austin reiterated that the U.S. commitment to Philippine security is ironclad and that the Mutual Defense Treaty extends to Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft anywhere in the South China Sea.
