THE THREE LOCHS WAY | Wild Camping Scotland | Wild Camp UK

Three Lochs Way wild camping.. in November? Sounded like the perfect winter hiking trail to us!
We had been on the hunt for a relatively short long distance hiking trail, that would be suitable for the colder months.

The Three Lochs Way is a 33 mile hiking trail that starts in Balloch and ends in Inveruglas, it traverses across The Trossachs National Park and takes in the three Lochs .. Loch Lomond, Gare Loch and Loch along. It is also known as The Three Lochs Walk, and they also run a Three Lochs Ultra.

How long does it take to walk the Three Lochs Way? Well, it really depends on the time of year and what time of day you start the trail.
It ended up taking us 3.5 Days to do just 33 miles!! This was for a few reasons, you will find out in the video! But mostly as the sun was setting at 4.15pm so we were running out of daylight hours.

The trail itself is simply gorgeous with some very pretty scenery, it is very well sign posted and for the most part, follows excellent paths
This makes it a great trail to tackle in the winter months. It has resupply options and is full of water sources.
Yes it was cold when we camped the second night, but as long as you have the right equipment for the temperatures you should be ok! Obviously check the weather reports before you start off. Wild camping Scotland is such an amazing experience, we highly recommend it.

There is NO wet weather gear on this earth that will keep you dry in constant rain and wind. I came in from a 15-hour tramp (hike) where it rained the whole time and in 50k winds, the only part of my pack that was dry, was the very centre. My sleeping bag was double wrapped in plastic bags and that was dry. As for me, wet through from top to bottom. If the rain doesn't get you then the sweat will, your pack shoulder straps will force the rain though your coat. After 50+ years in the mountains I Have still not found the 'magic bullet' of coats that will keep out the rain. Liked the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀

Loch Lomond has the largest surface area – 71 sq km
Loch Morar is the deepest loch – at 310m
Loch Ness is the largest loch by volume – it contains more water (7,452 million cubic metres) than all English and Welsh lakes together 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏔

Deacon Blue at the start.

Another lovely video in my native Scotland. Love the enthusiam and the entertainment in addition to the stunning scenery. Ive watched the Cleveland Way and West Highland Way which are on my to do list. My back couldnt cope with the weight of a backpack with tenrs so Im just hotels and b and bs during my walks. Im doing Smithy Walks Wales on you tube in different stages. I can recommend Anglesey for one of your future walks.

I'm in the central belt and just the thought of crawling out from under the duvet on a work day sends my body into an uncontrolable shake. Madness!

A Shropshire Lad

I’m going with Deacon Blue. A ship called dignity

Mark's Adventures

Did you tell fibs at 17? I'm not sure you'll want to walk 1000 miles in that. Devon's hard he's Scots. May I suggest a bag liner – I use one, plus I've ordered some dry bags for inside. Keeps water water out.

Mark's Adventures

High & low roads asside, Great video ladies. Someone breathing like me on hills…lol. I have to get out on a longer walk to try out my new Vango Shetpa 65 – £6.50! Bargain. Looking good ladies, Danielle rocking the hot teacher/secretary look – congratulations on packing in the fags. After a while you will be marching up those hills. How do you deal with cameras in the rain.

Space Cowboy

Plenty of Deacon Blue in my playlist. 🙂

Another great video. Nice looking trail.

Alan METALMAN – Outdoors

Oh was that Lomond Shores at the start? If so it brings back great memories of the Highlands from last year when we had 4 nights up there. Looked a good trail to follow and seating in November – in Scotland😳. Now that was an obstacle on the trail and more to come too and you were sure right about the rain. Got to say far too much tent time for me, I would be going nutso before midnight but a bonus being a well marked and (obstacles apart) real easy trail to follow. This wooden huts must have been a lifesaver mind – well done the army! Loved the girly running 🤣 but I hope your foot is okay and real good that you eventually did get some sun and superb Highland views. That hotel looked nice and another bonus on the trail, especially with wet gear but that swamp and fallen trees did not help things. Next year I have set a goal to walk the Northumberland Coast Path, which follows the gorgeous Northumberland coastline for 62 Miles, from Cresswell in the south to Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north. Unsure if I am going to section hike it or book a couple of Hotels/B&Bs along the way but it is a defo. Cheers Alan
