THIS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE TRACTOR REPAIR I'VE EVER HEARD OF

A customer wrote in to me to see if I had any good ideas of what he could do with his broken 1025R. The cost to repair is astronomical, and he’s already replaced it. Honestly, I don’t have any great suggestions, so I’m hoping I can rely on the community here to teach me something—where can someone buy used parts for a modern tractor? Does a place like that exist?

Depending on the dealership, they take part A and that has a jobber rate of X$$. Then they take part B that has a jobber rate of X$$. The fact 80% of the work is the same doesn’t matter, they just hit ya twice!! I actually had that explained to me be 2 industries that use Jobber rate. My own John Deere dealership I use still and my buddy who owns a Ford dealership. Both of them try to be fair and not charge you for the same work twice.
Seeing what was busted, the housing especially, it’s likely that they don’t have one as parts. That’s a piece that will almost never fail,,,, unless rolling backwards down a hill, into a tree at 30 mph!!! 😂. They have probably taken the entire cost of an assembled unit into account, THEN ripped him off with duplicating tasks under jobber rates,,,,,. It would have been nice to see the estimate.

I have a complete transaxle Id sell for 500 with 150hrs on it

Brad W

Wow….I google search rear axle failure on JD 1025 and there’s others who had same issue. I guess with the volume they sell that’s expected…..kinda? Pics of snaps JD axles and the core of axles looks like gray popcorn. May be same axles used by others, but that’s garbage at 200ish hours. Stories I read had common theme of loaded rears. Makes ya wonder if those axles just can’t handle weight. Would be shocked if insurance covered a mechanical failure as it broke before the tree collision.

I’m down south and loaded with antifreeze water mix so not too heavy and added weight box on my orange model

Elaine D

I’m always reminded by BH that my time and labor always has a monetary cost to it, even though I’m retired. If the owner wants to just part it out which would be my choice on this age of tractor, I’d be advertising on tractor forums.

william coffman

wow, if it were me, id just sell the whole thing as a parts tractor and be done with it if insurance didnt step in, then just go get another….

CirclePFarm

I still don’t understand what happened and I read the transcript after listening to the video?

YourSoundStudios

3-point hitch arms were not included when I got the used tractor and I didn't know I should have them. Fortunately the manager at the John Deere store had an extra set in a box and he gave them to me. $900 from John Deere. $250 in the non OEM market.
Kudos to United Ag and Turf for making things right.

Rob Clinton

I am in Cannon County Tennessee. If the broken tractor is nearby I would like to check it out. Would repair it for him cheaper (half dealer price) or maybe purchase it.

L Cee

Hmm, Thinking back, I thought the Kubota BX tractors were no good, not durable, can’t get much work done etc?
Funny thing though, there sure are a lot of equipment rental places that rent BX series tractors. Because everyone takes such gentle care of a rental…. 🤔

newerakr3w0311

My dealer just stuck some people with that rear input shaft Failure on the 2320 for about nine grand 😮

Overdrive1587

maybe an iron axle housing would have prevented that instead of the aluminum that they decided to use for their smaller tractors
why would they use aluminum anyway, using heavier iron instead would also help with rear end ballast weight
just seems like a no-brainer to me

RC Classic Crawlers

Yeah, I don’t know. I haven’t brought a tractor in for repairs in quite some time but, that seems a bit much to me. Not that I ever needed a repair anywhere close to that extent but even so. I’m sure thankful that I’m not the one dealing with that problem.

1993Cobra

Of course it broke, it's a small John Deere….Nothing like a real farm tractor.

Home owners insurance will not cover tractors i was told by my insurance it would need a specific policy for the tractor (kioti ck2610) something about home owners policies will not cover vehicles?

Richard Vantrease

So I had a catastrophic failure of the transmission on my 2021 2025R with about 300 hours on it. A big chunk of the transmission case blew out. I'm sure it will be several thousand, but should be warranty, but if not, it will be insured.

Currently at the dealer waiting for them to look at, and determine warranty or not.

Those 3pt arms are in the 2k range from JD, once I seen China knock offs for around 500 bucks. Unbelievable!

Sometime Is Now

I wonder how much he’d need for the tractor? Getting that little 1025r and fixing it up would be a great project. Your own labor is free if you were going to keep it. 👍🏼

Josh Schuler

These modern tractors are not up to par with tractors of 20 years ago. I have a 2007 TC34DA that has taken everything I can throw at it and has exceeded my expectations. When I compare its build quality to modern orange and blue tractors there is no comparison. Today Mfgs take every opportunity to cut costs in order to pad profits. All the while these things have gotten ridiculously expensive.

Sod farmer

I got my hip waders on , not buying this fishy story. Sucks that somebody is getting you to do they’re dirty work. Nope nope nope

ADRIAN MALLARD

Was it a John Deere…is all I'm asking…

simple man

Still waiting for you to sell me your M4. I had two previous Kubota tractors and switched to a Deere. I wish I would have stayed with Kubota. You like Deere and I like Kubota how about a new 5065E with cab and 39 hours for you M4 lol

Greg Murley

Look at the bent wheel at 6:23. If that happened prior to the axel brakeing it would be a big indication of where his trouble started. Would take a huge impact to do that which could have started a crack somewhere.

sancoffsr

If it was orange it wouldn’t have happen 🤪

Ex Pat Conn

Ouch!!!

Jesse Amaya

The engine alone retails for just north of $9,000. I wish I could afford to go get it, I'd love to have it for spares.

misterb1080

Sounds like the makings of a new show? Where can you get parts used or new other than John Deere?

mike bougher

If your in Pa or close wengers of Myerstown has parts tractors. They have more farm tractors than the little stuff but they do have compacts.

Ruebon Holder

This is probably weird you ask.

But what kind of boots you wearing?

They look very comfy

Foonus

At the rate of inflation , It's a thought to keep the damaged tractor just for parts. Those parts may cost 2x in a years time, and at very least you can sell it at an inflated price years down the road.
Steel on the lot is not prone to devaluation like money in the bank, you cant wake up and find it worth a fraction of what it was yesterday.

Jay Smith

I was moving logs into the firewood processor, had the forks on, had a chain on the front in case i had to pull some out. it came undone. wrapped around my hard hydraulic lines and as i lowered the logs the chain ripped all my 3 hydraulic lines off, bent them. was able to patch it together . Dont have a chain on the front haha. Also snapped my lever for the hydro sta lever on my john deere 4600

Marc St.Louis

Did you ever mention where this tractor is located??? If so I missed it, could you please disclose that, would make a big difference in my interest. Thank you!

Adam Stone

Probably most likely to happen to a Mahindra

Q Can

What I see is the axle shaft broke. This means even though you’re pushing the pedal, the open differential is going to continue to power the broken axle. So you roll backwards until the wheel on the “unbroken” side hits a tree and breaks the axle housing. Too bad it wasn’t in four-wheel-drive or it wouldn’t of rolled backwards and the only fix would be an axle shaft.

Charles Mach

I have a 2014 1025r. If I remember right the 2013 model was the 2026r. JD changed to the 2025r model to be under the tier 4 standards taking effect.

Logan

idc if it is out warrenty thats hella dangerous, best know id be chewing some a"" at JD

Rumblestrip

I would have thought that would have been a warranty issue. That low hours, and they didnt warranty, makes me wonder why… Thats a pretty catastrophic failure.

BS

That thing broke an axle blow leafs? Something sounds fishy here.

Marlon deere

TTWT had an episode that covered insurance coverage you might think about it also looks like several don't know. My help someone out.

Rick vaughan

Curious as to if a tractor is insured. Would this be covered by said insurance?

Big Bass Lake

I'm looking to put rear duels on my 1023… Is there anything I will need besides tires and if so, do you sell a kit to do so?

John

rear trans axle on ebay for 5000.00 for a 1025R

Scott Marshall

The price on tractor parts, especially oem, rivals that of aircraft parts. Not sure, but I expect it's because there are few alternatives, as in the automotive industry, where there is a lot of aftermarket competition. As far as labor goes, $100+ per hour is pretty standard today, as is $6.50 diesel, everything is up and it's going to get worse. I like to do my own work, but with the manufactures requiring you to have a dealer only scan tool to replace simple parts like an alternator (looking at you – big green, but you are not alone), repairing your own stuff is increasingly difficult.

David Mays

Any experience with rim straightening services? The 4044m I bought from you might have picked up a heavy load with grapple and slightly bent the rims, mainly noticing at medium and high speeds.

Kyle Kraft

Interesting video! I always do the math to decide whether to repair or replace. If it costs greater than XX% of the price of new, then might better replace.

tcmits

When I seen what looked like cast aluminum for an axle housing, could be wrong but aluminum is for lawn mowers. I'm so glad I bought the best tractor "EVER" made in 1993…

Karl Dawn Lang

Ouch!

Steph Barbershop

Statefarm told me it was not covered on my homeowners.

Steph Barbershop

I've got a 2020 2025R with the same situation. I backed into a fence post with a loaded bucket. The 1 and 2 series are not meant to be repaired.
