Wishiwashi man T.T A Pokemon with interesting gimmick, sold as a threat even to Gyarados before release. But then you realize that it has effectively 75% HP and no utility…
Decideueye was a pokemon I found to be disappointing competitively. It has pokedex entries mentioning how fast it can fire an arrow, yet its speed stat is not high enough. I was hoping that with the new form added in legends it'd finally get a decent speed stat. THEY MADE IT EVEN SLOWER.
Silvally, lore-wise it is supposed to be really strong but base 95 each stat is just too meh. At least in gen 8 they buffed multi-attack
Electivire is one of my fav pokemon I used to use it all the time in pearl and battle revolution. Funny how you find out some of your favorite mons can be unexpectedly great or bad in competitive.
Was hoping for the Landorus episode this week
Talonflame didn't lose its place because of flaws becoming known, it's been weak to Stealth Rocks always. They changed its ability so it didn't have constant priority +1 on Brave Bird and Acrobatics.
Sadly mimikyus ability is on a pikachu clone
Zoroark tried to hide itself as Arceus to save its face, but then it got hurt by that initial comment and got revealed. Which makes me sad because its ability was super cool and then was instantly neutered by said mechanic. Not that it could still be cool to use and could be useful in the correct formats, since you do not have to use it in certain formats thus making you capable of tricking them. Maybe the new Hisuian Zoroark can do much better with having more immunities to common startup moves like fake-out and other powerful moves like High-Jump Kick or Astral Barrage while still being able to do great damage back with its increased sp. atk. But who knows, maybe it will be an overhyped mechanic again.
For me, the Pokémon that disappoint me the most is Cloyster. It's movepool is completely wasted and it's stats are super unbalanced.
Why don't they just like, executive decision that sh*t and let dusknoir and electivire into DPP UU?
I guess there are worse hills to die on than your integrity but it's frustrating when they won't make a blatantly beneficial move for the 0.01% who will whine about the principal of it.
Sadly Centiskorch. Cool design but I wished it was faster.
The lack of good Physical Electric moves is the disappointment here. The best you'll get is Wild Charge, which is bad, and Volt Tackle for Pikachu, which is not worth it for either, because of the recoil. It's so bad that Tapu Koko mainly runs a Special set despite having a higher Physical Attack.
Let's not forget about the trees everyone.
Number 1 the players
I think they should change what freezing's property does. It rarely comes up, its a worse version of sleep and there isn't any way to take advantage of it once it happens as its just random.
The thumbnail is cooooooool :O
I think the only people disappointed by mimikyu are the people who expected more out of it than they should have in the first place.
An ability that busted is going to have the stats that force it into a niche. And it did have a good niche on many teams with that movepool, and could handle some key threats on many teams. Its usage falling wasn't a bad sign, because it just meant people figured out what you can and cannot do with Disguise.
I think people thought they could just swords dance sweep insta win, and that's obviously not going to happen.
No, you have to wait for Zacian and Galarian Darmanatan for that stuff.
I dislike putting one of my favorites here, but it's totally Avalugg. Sky-high Defense with good HP, Recover, Rapid Spin, and decent Attack? Amazing. Ice-type, slow as molasses, and a crippling Special Defense stat? Not amazing. It managed to carve out a niche in OU stall, but other than that, it has nothing much going for it, especially since the influx of Defog users destroyed its niche of hazard removal and another one of my favorite Pokémon, Sandslash-Alola, basically outclasses it as a Rapid Spin user in lower tiers.
RIP Shield Doggo… compared to Sword Doggo who gets to be the most op attacker ever, Zamazenta just gets to take hits well and not have Body Press… 🥲
Yknow at least Electivire and Dusknoir stayed in OU. I figured Porygon-Z would've been on the list given it could one shot blissey with a special attack yet ended up on UUBL
I'm more DISAPPOINTED that Regigigas wasn't on this list
One word: Vikavolt.
Some disappointments for me :
1) Mightyena : such a cool looking Pokémon based of the hyena, one of my favourite animals. Cool Dark type and two great abilities in Intimidate and Moxie and one more niche but still effective in Quick Feet. What could go wrong with it ? Well… its poor stats. Not having a stat higher than 90 and having 420 BST is generally sign of a Pokémon being bad unless you have a busted ability like Pure Power (Diggersby), you're severely minmaxed, have a slight niche or all of those qualities (Dugtrio with Arena Trap, Will-o-Wisp + Prankster Sableye), which, of course, don't apply to Mightyena. Mightyena doesn't only fit the rule but is also really bad. It's 70/70 physical bulk is clearly not enough to make Intimidate work without a heavy investment which would make it very passive. It's offensive prowess is too low to make a great use of Quick and along with that lack of power, speed is too low to make Moxie effective. Also being a mono Dark means you don't have a second STAB unlike most of Dark type competition. And its movepool lacks some of the best Dark moves : Knock Off, Pursuit and Parting Shot
In anything Mightyena would want to be, there is a least one Dark type that outperforms it. Any other physical Dark type is better than it. As an Intimidate user, you can pick Incineroar or Krookodlie, as a bulky/support Pokémon, Umbreon, Sableye or Mandibuzz outclass it in every corner. If you clearly want to abuse Moxie, choose Krookodile, Honchkrow or Scrafty. If you want a speedy Dark, Weavile is a way better net since it also packs more raw power. Even in lower tiers, Absol and Alola Raticate are way better Dark types than Mightyena could ever be.
I'd give it Strong Jaws instead of Quick Feet, Psychic Fangs (yeah strangely it doesn't learn that move), and better Atk, speed and HP (hyenas have good stamina though), the aformentioned Dark moves it lacks and we can get something decent at least.
2) Luxray : Like Mightyena, Luxray is a cool looking Pokémon but like Electivire, it suffers from the PEPS (Physical Electric Pokémon Syndrome), meaning that its best STAB is Wild Charge and the coverage isn't enough to backup the lack of reliability the STAB has. But as if it isn't enough for this poor thing, they somehow decided to make it slow along with a mediocre bulk, meaning that most of the time, it won't live long enough to show its raw power at its finest. Reversing SpAtk and Speed and getting Volt Tackle are the best buffs Luxray could ever ask for.
3) Zebstrika : Like Luxray, it suffers form the PEPS but worse in some way because at least Luxray gets Crunch, Superpower, Facade and Elemental Fangs, Zebstrika gets nothing good physically : only Double Kick, Flame Charge, Bounce and Pursuit are there along with Normal coverage. Wouldn't it be cool if it gets Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz (it's known to get Flame Charge in BW games so why not Flare Blitz), High Horsepower (Zebras are close to horses so not far fetched) and Jump Kick (again not far fetched) and maybe Triple Axel or Close Combat? Yes it would. And Reckless as the cherry at the top of the cake ? Way cooler.
4) Cacturne : While some Pokémon like Gigalith, Torkoal or Pelliper are more viable since they got their weather ability, this unfortunately doesn't apply to Cacturne, which desperately needs a buff. Just give it Sand Rush. And a more reliable physical Dark move than Sucker Punch. Knock Off or Darkest Lariat for example.
I'm going to call you wrong for saying that Dusknoir is cooler than Dusclops
(because it's an incorrect statement)
Honestly, I'd genuinely consider Arceus a disappointment pre-HGSS for us never getting that Azure Flute.
Pokemon unbound gives electivire plasma fists, I think that would probably be enough for it to stay in OU
The fact that Electivire doesn’t get plasma fists or close combat doesnt sit right w me
I find the biggest disappointment comes from all these Pokemon that get saddled with a trade evolution, because then I can't use them.
Day 159.
I'm once again asking for your quagsire support
Saw the title and immediately thought "Oh great, more bullshit cookie cutter '3D bad no battle frontier' Pokémon content," until I saw who made it.
