What The Ship (Ep60) | Supplychain | Maersk vs FMC | Russia Price Cap | Insurance | Port of Miami

Supplychain Slow Downs | Maersk vs Federal Maritime Commission | Russia Price Cap On Hold? | Shipping Insurance | Rise of the Port of Miami

What’s Going on With Shipping?
November 27, 2022

In this episode, Sal Mercogliano – maritime historian at Campbell University and former merchant mariner – discusses the top 5 Maritime Stories as of November 26, 2022. First, multiple issues are poised to hit the #supplychain with a new round of China COVID shutdowns, strikes in Korea and India, and the potential for a US rail strike. Second, the opposition of Poland, Estonia, Lithuanian and Latvia to the price cap set by the G7 and European Union jeopardizes the implementation of the sanctions set to take place on December 5. Third, Maersk Lines finds itself the target of a lawsuit under the new powers of the Federal Maritime Commission, granted under the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022. Fourth, a new report finds fire, inflation and global warning as the greatest threat to shipping and therefore increasing insurance rates. Finally, the Port of Miami, much like the rest of the Gulf and East Coast ports are benefitting from the shift of cargo from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Money laundering oil laundry what's the difference? What great leadership the US administration has been doing. Glad half the country thinks joe is doing a good job and is on track…Wake up people!
BTW Sal another great show, just 1 tiny thing an EV fire is a chemical reaction. Meaning you put the car underwater and will still burn.

Happy Monday Sal

Rob Peters

Love the segment Sal!!!
I can always trust your accurate reporting.
Question?
Since we’ve been reporting about the rates from the Covid epidemic, what or where would we be if Covid never happened?
Would we be in a better place in the shipping shipping world or worse? Did Covid open our eyes to more problems or not?
I’m just curious.

For a cool diversion into life on cargo ships – check out Joe Franta's channel – kind of an off beat look at work and life aboard a bulk carrier / merchant ship.

Maybe a Christmas wish of a brilliant production, almost definitive even, of rogue waves?

Noticed that if you need to see a doctor as a railworker, you can be fired, no sick leave? Squeezing the very rich is tough…

👍👍👍👊👊

In China because of the lockdowns the people are revolting big time. Looks like the start of a revolution against the Government here's hoping they'll kill it.

Ok Sam you know more than me. Your shipping news is informative and positive. You are a highly intelligent commentator. Please don't stop yourself from being more negative about your assessments. This is a stupid comment. Because the more we can ship, the more we are connected. Tell us more, what's in the way?

"Launder" oil.. I love it!!

Have a husband at Lloyd's about treaty insurance on shipping that was originally at Lloyd's for ships in 18th century. Lithium batteries fires still have no way to fight still 🤬

Kate Ford

Amazing info thanks ❤️👀🌎

Omry Yadan

Launder is a very good term here. They take dirty Russian crude oil and turn it into clean Indian gasoline!

Zetharion

Love the videos you put out even though I ain't in the industry at all but it is interesting to see what all is going on. Keep it up!

Magnum, P.I. called and he wants all the shirts from his closet back. Something about security footage taken from his house in Hawaii? 🇺🇸⚓️

Isn’t it nice to see everyone working together to stop transport temporarily 😊…great how they control things. All part of the big picture.

Makes sense they're bringing in more cargo and direct dropping it at Miami in light of the massive demand for goods/products needed to rebuild after the hurricanes. No use unloading crap up in New Jersey only to drive it back down to FLA.
