I grew up on the river. My ancestors were in fact the first white settlers on Wellesley Island. My father was born at home in 1921. My grandfather was born on the island in 1892. Either his father or grandfather was Hyram (spelling) Moore and operated a ferry from the island to Alex Bay. I was born in 1949 and his parents had moved to Watertown but kept the house as a cottage, even though it was a 3 bedroom house. Unfortunately, my family relocated to another state when I turned 13. I started going back the last few years to fish and I still think it is the best freshwater fishing in the country. Texas and Florida have bigger bass but you won't catch anywhere near the assortment of quality fish of different species anywhere.
