111422 18 WHEELER CRASH SENDS TRUCK OVER OVERPASS ONTO ROADWAY BELOW
At 8am Monday morning a box truck was traveling west on SH 99 just east of Birnham Woods Blvd in Spring. For unknown reasons the driver drove off into the left grassy median and traveled several hundred feet. He then came back onto the road surface and made contact with an 18-wheeler, also heading westbound hauling pool pumps. The collision caused the box truck to strike the guardrail, go between the eastbound and westbound overpasses, and launch across lanes below. That driver was in critical condition. The 18-wheeler struck the bridge rail and rode it for over 100 feet. The trailer loaded with pool pumps remained on the freeway while the cab dangled over the side. South Montgomery County Fire Department was sitting in the parking lot next to the incident and gave an immediate response. For the first time ever South Couty Fire has used the ladder to rescue a driver. They were able to raise the ladder and the driver walked down under his own power. However, prior to the rescue, every strap available on all trucks was utilized to stabilize the cab from falling the remaining distance. Rescue workers had put out an emergency call for a heavy-duty wrecker to respond to the scene as due to radio encryption by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office there was no way to contact a wrecker unless they had been monitoring a fire channel. If it had been a rotation wrecker it could have taken up to an hour to secure the truck before the driver could be rescued. Rescuers did say they did not believe the driver of the bobtail had been texting as his phone was on him and was dead. At noon westbound lanes remained closed as is Birnham Woods Blvd below. Milstead Wrecker loaded the 18-wheeler hanging over. Miller Towing recovered the bobtail. Slinky with Saddle Creek Towing assisted. Hazmat International was tasked with the cleanup. Fuel from both trucks covered the road below. With three schools in the area, officials say it was a miracle no vehicles were strick below. One other motorist was involved in minor damage to the vehicle.

Masterful recovery by two rotators working together. Impressive.
Nasty accident. Looks like the guy in the cargo van either fell asleep or had too much tequila with his morning coffee.
Flatbed really secured his load glad everyone okay
Someone farts at 2:37
Awesome crane work!!
HOLY CRAP ! ! ! ! !
Rotator operators deserve actual medals for recoveries like these. Amazing recovery.
I can see if I was the driver in the semi truck hanging down the bridge about believing I was dead ,life surely would have flashed by my eyes ,reminder another day alive is another moment it can be taken ,no wonder u hear live like every moment is your last
Thanks God no one 🙏🏾 died.
Oh my, where was this?
WOW! Good thing that flatbed was loaded, I think, right? :O
I know one thing I want to know who made the 5th wheel on that tractor that's one sturdy unit LOL
Looks to me like the truck violated the cardinal rule of tractor trailers and swerved to avoid the other truck that's a No-No. Never swerve to avoid anything in a tractor trailer I told that to people in my military unit anything playing chicken with you no matter why is expendable compared to what else you could cause death and injury to innocent people
Kinda looked from the skid marks like the semi swerved to the left and hip checked the straight truck. Maybe blew a steer tire or something?
The trailer looks like its in good shape
Failed guardrail it looks like. Blew right through that thing.
Gnarly.
Glad all survived, so far.
I can't imagine driving on a clear road and then almost magically a semi just appears in your lane directly in front of you! 😳🤯💥
Prayers y'all 🙏
Driving(anything)these days has become a highly hazardous occupation with extreme over-population and young inexperienced drivers. I’m sure both drivers were experienced in this situation though and wish the box truck driver a speedy recovery from his critical injuries. Sounds like a possible medical or mechanical condition with the box truck driver. Great job by all emergency personnel and the big rig wrecker recovery personnel. True professionalism.
That’s so scary…
Holy shiii! This is by my parents neighborhood. Didn’t know it was right here. I hope they’re okay
I'm willing to bet this was caused by a cell phone 🤔
