So there are quite a few people who are commenting about having or not having or needing or not needing the 4way plug. First, the 4way harness is still extremely common on most trailers under 4,000lbs GVWR and Boat trailers. Second, if you have the Tow Package on new GM trucks but Not the trailer technology package, you get the 4way above the 7way plug on the same plug (the 2023 Chevy Trail Boss I'm reviewing has it). If you opt for the technology package you no longer have the 4way plug over the 7way, instead you get the camera ports. Hope this helps folks who are viewing the video.

My 2022 3500HD has a second 7 way in the bed and a 4 way in the bed.
It's basically useless in there. I plan to swap the plugs to get the 4 way in the bumper and the camera connections in the bed as I don't need them in the bumper anyway since I tow a 5thwheel with the camera on it.

chris brook

I had a 2020 3500 high country and to your question the 4 pin was in the bed of the truck where I plugged my fifth wheel into i don’t understand why that was decided my gm to make that change

Ben Hubbard

It wasn’t that long ago that trucks with trailering packages only came with 7 pin anyway.

Deer In My Yard

K2x body style trucks had the 4 pin and 7 pin. GMT900 had an adapter included since that era truck only had a 7 pin.
Current gen trucks are missing the 4 pin if they have the trailering camera package.

Toby MT1925

My 21 Ford f150 ecoboost has a cigarette lighter socket and came with a four way adapter….🤣

5:26 Your safety chains are pertnear dragging the ground. In the western states, the highway departments always put out huge PSAs, even lighting up messages on the highway reader boards to encourage people to connect their chains in such a way that they won't drag the ground, so they don't create sparks, and possibly lighting a wildfire along a highway. Fires have been caused from this.

Chris Roland

GM used to always include the 4 way adapter. They must have discontinued the adapter to save money. They used to put it in the glove box.

Rob Grune

is GM still wax-coating the frames?

Ken Silver

If you create a trailer profile, include the length of your trailer, it will show you a red area on your turn screen to insure safe turning.

wooddogr

No 4 way? That's just criminal. Get rid of it now before you're forced to make more videos about it.

Allen Coleman

Regarding the missing 4 pin connector, Ford does the same thing. If you get the trailer TPMS and/or camera you need the 4 pin adapter.

mike wilkey

My 07 Avalanche LTZ doesn’t have a 4way

Myles Bartlett

I say convert your trailer plug to the 7way plug and always keep an adapter in the truck. The 4 way option is not a big miss in my opinion, I really don't think it's a big deal.

David Leaghty

My 05 has a 7 pin and no 4 pin. The one weird thing is it has a push button at the end of the shifter for towing. But mine has a 5.3 gas engine.

Bill Raver

I've had several new GM trucks and the units that only have the 7 pin all had the adapter in the glove box when purchased

Kevin Van Lohuizen

The missing 4 way in exchange for cameras is common now. We know manufacturers are cheap these days. Most 2 5 and 3 inch hitches no longer come with reducing sleeves. They keep raising vehicle prices but add $20 to get these little items seems to be too much to ask. Same as you only get a tiny credit of about $50 when a feature that may cost hundreds to get is not available for your build.

shane brown

Tow a trailer that maxes out that truck and you will be amazed on how it really does both pulling it and fuel mileage Especially compared to a gas engine!!

VINCENT TUCKER

typical cheap GM vehicle BUY a real truck like a FORD!!!

FScott Gray

My Rams all have both connectors for trailers. I will have to pick up a adaptor for my GMC.

steven reynolds

I have never greased a ball in my life

daniel fisher

Just reading thru your responses to some of the comments is very entertaining. In one you reference going to pick up a trailer and not having the adaptor so along those lines you made no mention of a ball mount not being provided. Anyone who has one of these would know they needed a ball mount and a adaptor .Why becouse they would have checked. And according to my dealer it should be in your glovebox. Unless your dealer forgot to include it. Also you missed a opportunity to direct people to your sponsor to buy one if needed. Almost a vailed excuse to bash GM.

Kevin Barry

I do not see the problem with this. If you need that plug as you did, use an adapter

People at GM are doing some interesting things like these lately. Like the new Colorado without headlight switches and this? What if you have mudflaps like rock tamers with lights that needs a 4pin and you're trailering with the 7 pin? I guess they haven't thought of that? Just wow the way they're doing these things that limits people's options.

kurt schulmeyer

I just use the 7 way adapter. I less connector to worry about.

1967friend

I feel like this is a bit dramatic trying to knock this truck for not having a 4 way connection.

NYMustang50

Did you look behind the bumper? Sometimes I find the 4 way behind the 7way behind the bumper

ChannelNameHere

interesting. I hope this isn't the way the industry is going. There are still needs for 4-way w/out adapters.

mark s

My 23 2500hd sierra has one in bed as part of fifth wheel prep……my question is, why a 7 and 4 pin in the bed? The 4pin in the bed is useless

Rob B.

My 07 didn't have a 4-way either.

Larry Hansen

Oh my, are we really fussing over a $7 adaptor? Goodness.

chuck rogers

My 22 F-150 doesn't have a 4 pin connector either but it did come with a adapter in the center console

Garen Pletzer

I think my 07 chevy 1500 and my 08 2500 never had a 4 way either. Those never had have any cameras.

Tempy2Gs

Great video! I laughed when you mentioned the MPG towing, other full size trucks would be happy to see 18.6mpg average under normal driving conditions, let alone while towing hahaha gotta love the new LZ0 – hopefully that'll be my next new truck!

mclroy

I own a F-150 2021 and it has no more 4 way connector on it too. Ford provides an adaptor with the truck. Very cheap. The truck has this auxiliary camera connector on it. Look, i paid $74310.00 CA. Can't believe that i have to use an adaptor.

Josh Post

I noticed it in some of TFL's coverage, where GM just doesn't include a 4way connector in the newer trucks, ever since they started including a second camera connector. Previously they had the camera connector in the void spot on the opposite site of the plate mount, and had the 4way with the 7pin, now they just don't bother with the 4way. Though even in the mid 2000s, they didn't have them either, my dad had to use a 7pin to 4way connector when towing with his work truck. As he prefers 4way connectors for his light duty trailers, even the boat trailer is 4way. Luckily he's had 2 Ram 1500s since 2017 (a 2009 Laramie and now a 2017 Sport) and both have the combination 4way and 7pin connectors and loves the Rams for their ability to tow, haul and be relatively reliable.

Those side mirror camera are IT! I guarantee that'll save a few people from hitting curbs (or poles, cars, etc.) when they cut too soon.

James M

I perfectly understand what you saying, but I got like a dozen four-way adapters in my center console from over the years.

DSAK31

Love my Phoenix 4500 tongue jack on my TT. Your video was the reason I got it. On the 4-way plug, to my knowledge, GM hasn't had them on vehicles for a while now. The wife's old 16 Suburban did not have a 4 way, just the 7 way. I prefer the 7-way plug on all trailers as it is, so everything I own has a 7-way plug.
