They must get experienced drivers….reckless drivers must be held responsible not the truck industries bcoz trucks give employment to more than 25% of South African man. Families depend on their parents that drive trucks….so rethink the ban of trucks bcoz that will never happen….it will be war in South Africa if truck fleets are banned.

Lourens Meyer

Excellent idea, like it was, during the days of the "regime" when everything worked they way it should.

Samantha van Rooyen

We need visible policing and for the laws to be enforced.Than the trucks will obey the rules of the roads and these terrible accident will not happen.

Kearns Morris

Truck drivers should undergo strenuous testing, including IQ and psychological.

Lukholo Sityebi

Removing trucks of our roads even if just during the day and maybe introducing railway freight again is just not feasible for us. Just imagine the loss in revenue for many businesses, the time losses of using rail freight etc…

Yado Yaya

The biggest problem is not the trucks. The roads are the biggest problem. The Government doesn't do the job they should.
Every road in SA is messed potholes no lines.

Loadshedding robots don't work.
So basically our government is not in working condition.
A bunch of greedy evil people who are causing all this accidents and deaths. Shame on the Ministers and President

How To With Jackie Smidt

Stop worrying about the trucks and start worrying about Eskom.

Val Sables

A detailed plan ???? HA HA HA. Mabula the man that cannot fix our railways.

Brooke Brooke

…..

Morgan Chetty

Even if the driver of the truck is professional someone else's mistake on the road can lead the truck into an accident.

mikaeel moodley

This government is usless

William Baartman

Move back to rail transport with tighter security and remove these death traps from our roads…. Most truck drivers are in experience and reckless

Martin Nyirenda

Banning Trucks during the day? Then allow them to move at night? Not a wise move. Number of accidents will increase more than hundredfold. Rather set time frames for truck movements.
When i worked in Botswana many years ago, trucks were ONLY allowed to move up to 6pm. Any truck found on the road any time after 6pm faced the might of the law. Traffic accidents involving trucks were reduced tremendously. When you drive after 6, you will find trucks packed all along the roads. Let trucks be given Operating Times – say 05:00 to 6pm ONLY

Bee West

Yep come up with more stupid ideas ( trucks driving at night) to make us pay more for food, furnisher & services. Ppl have built shacks on train lines & do not want go move. They have ripped up train tracks, stolen cables & train signaling services. ANC let the railways rot now they are only waking up. Too little too late should be the govts new slogan.

James Christopher Eckhardt

Can we also get rid of taxis? They are the biggest cause of accidents on the roads – period.

Redant

What an idiotic idea….It is simply NOT possible.Rather lower the speed limit to 100 for trucks and 110 for cars and urge people to stick to the law.Get rid of corrupt traffic cops ….problem solved…

Lowina Mutandwa Chitukutuku

I need to know about national for truck driver

FLOR REAL

Heavy haulage trucks in SA are God's unto themselves

FLOR REAL

Companies and traffic authorities must monitor trucks movement by satellite in real time. They can stop trucks quickly if they are being badly driven

rerag

We have railways, trucks must get of the road, especially coal and manganese trucks, our roads are not engineered and built to carry those loads,it belongs on a railway thats why is was built.

Absolute Guppies Cape Town

Ban and restrictions will achieve nothing but impact the consumer. Infrastructure, compliance and accountability is is needed here. Unfortunately this is South Africa, a place that has less logic and common sense than a rock in the Kalahari

Trevor Cornelius

Nothing will change in this country!!! It's the way people behave here!!!! They don't care about nothing!!

Robert Tomlinson

Dhesan, I see the scars on your head…..WTF?? Were you also involved in an accident?? 😱😱

JB

Reality is that this people are killing us

Alf Skea

Sort out the Railways ! The problem solved.

De Klerk Uitkomst

Allowing trucks on the roads only at night is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard. Could only have been thought out by somebody who have no idea of the role trucks play in our economy.

Goat G

Bring back the railway with railway police.Good days

♤CRITICAL THINKER

Calls need to grow for a taxi ban

Raggidy Ruff

Truckers who kill.people should automatically be guilty and they must prove there innocence

Qiniso S Zwane

Banning Trucks during the day is not practical, afterall trucks transport food, medicine, clothes as well as medical equipment. Rules to control the hours that truck drivers drive are a better option as well as imposing mandatory transparency between truck companies and the D.O.T.

mummysaidican'thaveabf

There are cargo planes that are not too expensive, can carry quite a load , operations costs are not astronomical .

Bob Bob

Why is no one talking about 21 children on a Bakkie.
Maybe truck drivers need to have a IQ test before they get there licence

real brock

ja fok hulle

pornokid333

Transport coal by rail yes. But by and large, i don't think freight and logistics industries would survive restrictions like that.

Gertrude marizani

But I think the explosion may also be caused by human error. If you watch the video some local were running and stealing from the truck and another carried something like fuel in a bottle and the traffic polic too were supposed to condone the area. How is one sentenced when something he can't control fails on his truck and other human factors. Reporters should look at all factors too.

Ben Rossouw

Move it BACK to rail, you mean.

Lusanda Matshingana

What about the bakkie that was having 21 children …overload ….both sides must be met ….
