What a Session ! Lure fishing for Bass

My best lure fishing session for Bass this year , most enjoyable catching Bass on Lures in daylight and in to the early evening.
A fair few fish over 42cm . At one point In the film say its 30 Bass but actually it was 20 ! That just shows even when things are going well I exaggerated in my head !
Im asked why I don’t use a net- The net is useful for the bigger bass. With the bigger ones I will give the time in Oxygenated water to recover.
However with the smaller fish we had today its just a case of unhooking them and back in as soon as possible. You shouldn’t be holding a small bass in the water stopping it going as they are tough and ready to swim away.
I say this as there will usually be someone saying I need to sit in the water and cuddle the bass for ages- Not so with shoal fish like these.
The first Lure I landed the fish on is called ESPETIT shallow 120m floating

The Superb Lure that Landed 20 plus bass (all on the same lure) was Shimano Silent assassin in that cotton candy colour.
I do wonder if its the luminous belly that the bass were picking out.
I wonder if anything would of done but i have a feeling you should stick to the same Lure once its started to fish well.
At one Point I had 10 takes in 10 casts. Not all of the footage was shown because it starts to be like a reel of the same thing !
So many advantages to Night lure fishing as we learned last week.

These fish have moved on and i’ll be switching venues moving in to October which is traditionally a time for bigger fish. That said I’ve not had a decent size fish this year. Not sure how that reflects the state of the Bass fishery ?

GOUK_From 1 March to 30 November, not more than two seabass may be retained per fisherman per day. In recreational fisheries in ICES divisions 8a and 8b, a maximum of two Seabass may be retained per recreational fisherman per day throughout the year.
The minimum size of European Seabass retained shall be 42 cm.

A quick word on safety while Lure fishing for Bass at night – Don’t fish alone, I have a camera shy friend and we know the Ground and tides very well. The main problems come with Big tides up against those chalk cliffs, Rockfalls and not having an escape route. There were some compromises with fish landing because you risk falling in. Big wet boulders are lethal. I do go in the water but on the flat beach sections.
I hope this Description helps with any questions you might have.

As soon as think i know something in Bass fishing its time to change ! I recently told you about fishing low and slow with soft plastics during the night however it was that flash boost that was needed to retrieve with pace in todays video ! Always learning

Such nice basses. Sometimes the bigger the lure is the smaller the fish is :).

Trampster

L.R.S FISHING

zimtrout

lovely video!!!do you have any recommendations for a travel rod, 9ft 4 section 10-40 g???

Timothy Lathwell

Hey mate what is the first lure called the popper/surface at the start at the video?

Richard Bedford

And well done btw. Great session 🐟👍

Richard Bedford

Possibly small squid tapping the lure Matt? I had the same happening yesterday in 4 ft of water of the beach in Brighton. Caught 3 bass and 2 small squid on early flood 👍

Nice one Matt, a little tip for those so called wind-knots in braid. They are a little easier to undo if you use one of your hook points to enter the loops gently and open them up. If you are careful, not to pull any other loops tight they should be a lot easier to untangle. Always be careful not to damage the line. If you do have to tie the braid together, I have found that the 10 turn double-blood knot or the 'uni to uni' (10 tunrns each way) both work equally well.

Enjoyable video again Matt use popper a lot out in my mates boat 4 a mixed bag of fish noticed currents r behaving very strange not flowing in the direction it should be 4 this time of year.

Hey! Love the videos man! Do you or anyone in the comment section know of a good bass area to lure fish in the Southampton area? I’ve got all the gear but no idea where to fish 😂

BYF1

Fantastic session and great angling. What size/version of the Silent Assassin do you use? I've just got my first proper lure, a Patchinko 100. Now I'm after a proper shallow diver to use on South Kent/Sussex coast.

Chris Davison

Not jealous of the numbers of bass caught….. Honest! 🙈

Paul Rosier

Why did you not try a different lure to see if you could entice larger bass in the dark?

Happy Guy

What an incredible session and only because you put in the effort, especially walking a couple of miles 👍🏻 Also catching a Mackerel after dark is a first for me and I never would have believed it without seeing you catching it. Superb video.
By the way it’s wonderful to see you returning all those beautiful Bass😊

Nigel Norton

Great fun. Love a red letter session. Even if they small fish……what fun. 👍🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

D8W

Amazing session, what lure were you using when it started getting dark?

Placido Linares

Hi there. Great content. Do you do tuitions? Thank you

Leon Cox

Unbelievable night congratulations

David Olphert

Fantastic session, well done!! 👏
… Did you win that wind knot battle?!!
What braid is that?!
Cheers!

londonviking

Mega bass sesh, nice one Matt!

Frank Frank

"As you can see" nope 😂

Jonathan Fitzpatrick Warren

I have only recently changed from fly fishing to Sea and very much looking forward to my first Bass, regardless of size, great video as always, thanks for the education, yes I am green along with most others, but my time will come, especially as I keep learning from your videos

Ann Lancaster

Great you got 25+ bass, but it’s dark maybe need a little more lightning would be good for views sweet 😊

Dan Harvey

Great sesh. Thanks Matt.
Tried a bit of evening into night fishing last night. Didn’t see the wind knot – but heard it – as I cast and ….. yep launched my ‘savage gear Cotton Candy into the darkness!!! DOH !
Looking forward to trying again with some big high tides in a couple of weeks. Might try elsewhere as Shoreham (where I fish) is mostly shallow sandy beach. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Flo

Lovely stuff I just went for my 1st night session also first time wading. Its amazing how active they are, was a blank but a great time regardless. Think I need to get some more topwaters/shallowdivers in my tackle box

Skateboarding Jesus

Anglers with recent blank sessions are looking at this and going green.
25+ bass? Now you're really rubbing it in.😂

Ian James

Amazing session Matt. I would say Basstastic😉🎣

James Duffy

Arrrr! The wind knot! Had a right bad one a couple of weeks ago, I wear glasses so after 10 mins had to put on the only line I had in the bag, 100m of fluro! Least I managed a few schoolies, pollack and nice wrasse on the dark green/brown plastic storms. Spares spools are coming!!
Great session fella! The power of darkness! What braid you on at the moment?
