Pike fishing a weedy river. In this film Graeme heads off to try 3 Hampshire lakes for a Pike using lures. But the hot weather had caused a massive growth in weed. So being the all-rounder he doubles down and heads off to a 4th lake to try and get some action. Then it’s back in the Totally Awesome film studio where he shows you his method of getting more life out of a broken float, and he doesn’t use any glue at all. Then, a quick beginners guide to how he shots up his Waggler float, plus the popular THEORY TIME (Yay!!) where he throws out an idea that somehow, something if affecting the Pigeon population. It can certainly get you thinking, so this midweek extra film has a complete mix of topics in it..Enjoy!

maybe those pigeons ended up here….tons of them eating bread downstairs.🤣🤣🤣
Another fine edition, Graeme.
Hi, I can properly give you a couple of years (71) and I have used a similar idea, as an electrician I have often used “Heat shrink” tubing, as the name suggests the tube shrinks when heat is applied. Most of my floats have at least one piece of tubing on them or I have made new floats and used a bit of tubing with a couple of BB leads and applied heat and that makes a very thin float that goes under if a fish goes past it.
Hi Graham, an alternative to your repair with the rubber tubing. Some suitable diameter shrink tubing, that has adhesive built into the internal side of the tubing would be equally as good, if not better, as the shrink tubing is slightly stiffer properties, and may be more of a permanent fix. Michael.
back in the coal mining days , ie no mobile phones about then the average mans pigeon loft would breed 10 young birds to race a full young bird season , now you have to breed around 150 just to have 10 left if your lucky at the end of the season ,
Hole in ur net will damage the fish
Try punching powershot or any other heavy cover tactic
I'm 'hooked' excellent chatty video . keep it coming. Also you look like 'Bruce Forsythe' !
I have a Canal Grey, had it since 1998, bought from Downham Tackle, SE London..
Really good watch shame about the first lakes with the weeds but ace you you went to the other lake and catched nice to see the cabin getting fixed up and enjoyed theory time but something to think about for sure
👍👍👍
Here is a top tip for you to pass on to your viewers Graeme. When set up and maybe moving with the lure tied on… always clip it to one of the legs of the rod eye and never through the eye itself. Hard sharp hoohs may damage the eye resulting in line breaking and lost fish!
Hi graham, first time ive seen 1 of your youtubes. i loved it. I think you showed the real side of angling. The things we have all done. Going somewhere and its full of weed etc and the fishing being crap, and we can still enjoy being out there. Your humour is first class to, youd be a joy to fish with. im knocking on for 70 now and well remember the canal greys. ivan marks etc. Best angling tubes ive watched for a very long time.
Sort that net hole out fella
Thanks again for another entertaining video, very interesting piece about the pigeon losses.
Pike fishing was my favourite as a kid in the 80’s…..I think they should now make it illegal to take pike for the table.
Hello Graham, nice video, was this filmed last year 2021 ,if so have you re-visited the same lakes since and what was the weed like ?
Great vidoe graham have u ever tried like fishing at hungerford canal is so did u have much luck
Wood pigeons… probably hydration. Nair a drop of water anywhere 😂
Wouldn't waste your time on there, that place has been turned over by otters and it had next to no water in It a few weeks ago
Is it wrong to laugh at the pigeon stories. I found myself laughing my head off. Especially when you imitate the pigeons.
<<<a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you..
Using tackle from 1943 is quite endearing but seriously you must be millionaire by now, can't you upgrade the recording equipment to do away with that bloomin lead???!!! 🙈🤣🤣🤣
I have he changed the way I approached float fishing Nd I was never a match angler. Mike😊
A bonus video on a Sunday? Just made my night
Said it ages ago never seen as many dead pigeons in normal street roads always seem be eating in roads, not killed one yet but had s few close calls
Shame about the weeds they seem to be taking over this year. Good tip about fixing broken floats, I have used clear heat shrink to fix floats, normally used for wiring before to same effect.
Hi Graeme … You’re an absolute legend mate cheers 👍🎣🎣
I remember the name Billy Makin in the Angling times when I was a young lad..Great fix for the float Greame and yes the pike fishing is tougher these days.
bird flu mate, the wild pigeon population has collapsed, ive personally witnessed them smashing there heads off the ground to relieve the pressure in there skulls, growing up with my grandfather racing pigeons there was certain routes if they were set from they got totally lost, id look at the swallows and swifts more for the geomagnectic field and they where here in record numbers this year, but id def be in agreement more research needs done on that department
Question the owners should not charge you for that it's shocking demand your money back g
What a treat on a Sunday! Better than having to watch Strictly! Life saver Graeme 😊
Hi Graeme great two fix's this weekend
shame about the weed I have also used sliced ham
as for the birds who knows some seagulls seem to be the same down here in Cornwall
Thank you again
also watched Mikes video about the living hedge great job he is doing there
Pike fisherman here. Fished for it in my youth with a family friend the switched to carp fishing when he had to move town then retired from fishing then decided to come back to the sport, kitted myself up for pike. Paid a club membership to fish a local stretch of river, paid the waterway wanderers permit to fish the local canal stretch and never caught a single thing for the entire year.
I live in a very urbanized are where there are a lot of people not "from here" and my guess is a lot of fish have been illegally removed by these folk for the pot over the years because there arent as frequent patrols by bailiffs or enforcement/environmental health officials up and down the river to stop them as there used to be.
Anyway, I started guesting at a private fishery what was rumoured to have a very small population of big pike. though i didnt catch one until probably my 8 or 9th session there. The population there is so small that you really do have to be in the right part of the lake at the right time to have any chance of hooking into one.
Fishing there was extremely tough. for the first 4 sessions. I had a medium setup throwing lures between 15-30g. I couldnt find any pike but i did notice lots of perch following my lures but I obviously couldnt catch them because they are about the same size as the lures i was throwing! I think i was in my 4th or 5 session when i bought a lighter setup for the perch…. 9g spintail lure smaller than the size of my thumb got gobbled up by a pike a hair under 15lb.
Unfortunately i think private fisheries or reservoirs are the only places where you will find the odd pike fishermen these days especially in really urbanised areas and they are honestly the place to go if you want to stand any chance of hooking into one.
The sport is still alive and well, Just very underground. Rather than targeting pike directly, I target perch instead and if i happen to hook into a pike while im at it then i'm pretty lucky, otherwise there will never be a day where i'll completely blank – and i have had some really tough sessions even with the new perch setup.
The greatest thing about the place im guesting at is 99% of the members are carp fishermen. I pretty much have free reign when i show up for the perch and pike.
No sorry Graham but not the 5G it is something to do with what farmers are putting on crops, the other thing is the councils have been trying to get rid of Pigeon's for years, the EU and other countries have been using different sprays on their crops and see the pigeon as a pest that is just as bad as bugs.
Maybe a bit of heat shrink tube would repair float. A tiny link swivel can be used to attach float and it will fit all floats whereas the piece of valve rubber might not..
Hi used to have a full set of Billy makin canal greys, along with the drenan still water blues back in the 1970,s and early 1980,s they were my go to floats for my local club water fishing . I still keep keep my eyes open for them today in second hand tackle shops and eBay etc. and yes I agree with you that they are vulnerable to snapping.
Remember the canal greys well. Used them 30 years ago
Avian flue is devastating
Fish of a 1000 casts, great when you get one but can go through some huge dry spells, doing nothing wrong.
Alright greame buddy I live in Hampshire and I have ho idea where ur fishing but I'm very interested in fishing it buddy whats the location, BTW an absolute banger of a video yet again loving ur footage and I STILL learn something new from every video thank u for sharing mate pukka videos ❤️👍😎🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Billy makin canal greys used them 30 yrs ago . He lives in Thailand now 👍👍🥃
Hi Graeme, I've still got many Billy Makin canal floats, from my days fishing the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Maghull, they were always my float of choice.
Regarding the dopey pigeons, according to the NFU website, there have been 15 outbreaks of avian flu, in the south of England since the 1st of October!
