How To Float Fishing Blades for Steelhead

In the Pacific northwest, steelhead fishing is one of our passions. Whether winter or summer there is an opportunity to catch these great sea going trout. With this pursuit of the prolific fish of one thousand casts, anglers learn to develop and add new tips and techniques to their arsenal. In today’s video, we cover just that. We are talking blades (or spinners) under a float for steelhead. By no means did I think of this method, heck it didn’t even originate in the states. We look north to our Canadian friends for this technique and I am sure glad I came across it myself. Watch as we break down this technique and show how you too can learn.

allen micheal

Bro any suggestions for deeper water like a Niagara River with this technique. Good fishing is usually from 15 to 20 f. here.Ty

Tom McClellan

Great video. Been doing this awhile is awesome. Few people use it here in one, but been doing it in BC for decades

Jim Mascaro

The spread of the splitshot weights (& their sizes) could you give me the specifics – i.e. inline then 12" then splitshot etc. Thx in advance.

Float fishing blades? Wtf.

Where is this video shot? Pacific Northwest is a big place

Looks fun. Excited to test it out.

I’m new to drift fishing. Using a bait caster, is it normal to have natural tension when it’s free spooling during the drift? And should the spool tensioner be set to very loose? When I let it spool, it seems to not be giving out line fast enough with the current. Any feedback is appreciated!

Fishy

never heard of this technique before. I'll have to give it a try

GOLDSMITHEXILE 2016

could this work for pikes?

Adventures with Frodo

Shaun Kirby

When they hit blades it is a very hard hit so hang on to your rod or you may lose it, from Vancouver island 👍

I loved that chrome and blue spinner blade for Spanish Sardine imitation brother! I've got to try that one!

run&gun

Nothing new here in ny state up north for stealhead. Works really well but here they hit hard on mostly eggs.

ellis2269

I find this funny, but way cool, i’ve been using a bobber with my mini mepps and rooster tales since i was a teen.

Millers Landing

Dang!

The german angler

Very, very effective, except you didn't catch a damn fish.

Vince Aleksa

You look like a noob. Quit giving people bad info with your reel retrieval. Why in God green earth would you be holding your rod in your right hand if it is a right had retrieve it's just pore instruction common clearly you have the money. Buy the right reel jack ass

Dirtbike Guy

I live up in Ontario and use this on those pressured days and the fish want somethin different the just a old row bag floating down to them which where I live they see thousands of them cool to see our friends down south using this technique 🤘🇨🇦💯

Embcii Bee

-> FISHINGWITHROD actually has a similar video, just using different spoon

Koogle You

Very well presented. Just beginning my investigation of steelhead fishing and how its done. Reminds me a lot of troutfishing in upstate NY but with a nicer view.

James W

Rick, you continue to amaze me with making it S I M P L E!!!! I wish you had a drone over your float so we can see across the water, when a Steelhead picks it up. That's NEXT I'm guessing. Tight Lines My Friend.

Shawn Davidson

O man you let the cat out of the bag . nothing better in those long shallow flats .

Buzz Kill

Great video man! I prefer to see you out on the water! I can see how this technique can be deadly if the hardware bite is on. I also do a little pinning myself. I'm going to pick up a couple of these blades and give them a try.

wilson flanders

I'm definitely going to order a few and give it a try.Thank you greatly and keep the video's coming!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family God Bless

REELPHATTIES
