Really want to hear how these do in the Rocky Mountains. We tow to +8k ft often.
Yes please show rv’s this truck can tow. I feel that wold be the most helpful for so many and to use the weigh safe hitch.
I would love to see what's the biggest RV you could tow with it. My 21 Silverado can do 9k pounds on the sticker and I am curious on what the size would be.
I'm so glad you brought up the subject of the 20ft enclosed trailer. My 5.3L Sierra has similar towing numbers, I was also considering purchasing the same trailer. Hopefully you do speak more about the cargo trailer.
My 21 5.3l lt crew cab has a trailer rating of 9300 and a goose neck of 8500. Seems like the gasser is better for towing.
What kind of fuel mileage are you getting dry weight
It will be interesting to see how it tows, but I think the diesel in all the the brands in the half ton models just have too many compromises with larger trailers that gas max tow packages can handle within their specs. Plus, Diesel prices are a lot higher than even premium gasoline, and I live in an oil production state! I just don't see how they make economic sense like they did years ago when diesel was cheaper than regular gas, and there was no DEF to worry about.
Great video. People get too hung up on trailer weight when in reality the size and type of trailer you’re towing is far more important. This is true with any truck but it’s especially true with half tons. So good job in pointing this out.
Your enclosed trailer would be a good match for the truck and it will do pretty good with it. But that same trailer in say a 24’ or especially a 28’ is really starting to push it with a half ton in my opinion.
I think flat trailers or boats are ok even at close to the max weight rating for half tons. But an enclosed type trailer that’s getting close to 30’ long overall length is too much for any half ton, even if the weight is under the trucks rating.
I like this truck. Man, I hope u get your hands on a cyber truck when they come out. Would be hilarious and amazing at the same time
Your truck does not have the max tow package.
My 2023 GMC 3.0 crew cab, regular bed with max tow package. Is rated for 11,700lbs towing. Max tow package gives you 3.73 gears, 9.7 “rear end, bigger radiator and a few more items.
I'll describe what these "three digit codes" are that GM uses, such as LZO.
They are called RPO codes, which is the acronym for Regular Production Option.
GM has been using these for many, many years. A different code is assigned to every conceivable piece of equipment (option, variation of gear ratio, etc). They are standardized across nearly their entire line of vehicles, particularly "axle ratio".
LZ0 (zero) is the RPO code for the new version of the 3.0L Duramax. Previous version was LM2.
Another example for the purpose of my explanation of RPO Codes is the 6.6L Duramax. First gen 6.6L was LB7, then came the LLY, LBZ (the holy grail of the 6.6L), LMM, LML and currently we have the L5P. I have a 2009 LML Duramax.
These codes used to be on a sticker in the glovebox. I haven't shopped new trucks in a long time, so I am not sure if that sticker still exists in the glove box.
You can give the VIN to a dealer and they can print out a BUILD SHEET which will list every RPO code that a given truck is built with.
I think the question should be is a 3 L diesel good for towing compared to the 5.3 are the 6.2
GVWR + Conventional towing = GCWR
7200 + 8800 = 15,000
That’s why the towing is relatively low on that truck.
Now I know I can't purchase a 150, 1500 or any half ton vehicle.
Excellent breakdown! Thank you.
Don’t buy anything made in Mexico , poor quality it doesn’t last ,just watch Scotty, who is a mechanic, for 50 years and he is on YouTube he will tell you all about things made in Mexico especially vehicles made in Mexico or partially made in Mexico, cheap cheap made
I have a 6k lbs RV. I plan to buy this engine or the 3.5 Ford in spring. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this engine.
Why is gooseneck rating lower than bumper pull? I thought the point of the gooseneck/5th wheel connection was it spreads weight over the whole frame of the truck better
Half tons can’t tow…I learned that on this channel 😂
I wish I could post pics here. Just to illustrate the differences between different models of the same truck, this is what my '23 Sierra SLT with LZ0 and Max tow looks like:
GVWR: 7300
GCWR: 17800
RGAWR: 4150
Curb Weight: 5509
Max Payload: 1791
Conventional trailer: 11800, Max tongue: 1180
Gooseneck: trailer 8100, Max tongue: 1215
If I'd gone with 20" wheels conventional trailer goes up to 13000 lbs, not sure about gooseneck.
I have a 21 Chevy 3.0 RST CC for almost 2 years. I tow a Flagstaff 21fbrs with it. No issues towing the trailer. I am good on all the weights (checked at a truck stop) and it tows fine. I get about 12-14mpg. Love the truck. Mileage (just the truck) 25-26 city and 29-30 on the highway.
Interesting…it has less payload capacity than my 2020 Ford Ranger FX4 with tow package.
If you get the right package the gmc will tow 12’500 lbs
Dose GMC have sponsorship with Airstream bambi or Keystone lite ?
What lite rv to tow?
Great video, looking forward to your future videos with this truck. I always cringe at people who don't load their trailers properly, or are not using the correct vehicle to tow.
Also need to know the rear and front axle weight rating to adjust weight distribution. You can't do it just by measuring the squat.
The BTBRV cargo trailer is getting oxidized you gotta put some work into putting some kind of coating to keep it shiny JD.
Did you test anything ?
Would this truck be a good fit for something like the Black Series HQ19?
With Biden “Fucking-Up” Diesel. Perhaps Ford has it right with its gas V-10. ?????
