How about adding nets for fishing? I have an another idea that is unrelated to fishing, and it is upgradable crafting tables, limited to lvl3 and now I can craft advanced recipes but it isn't that easy because you'll need recipe scrolls, and candy be found through mining, deep dark, mineshaft, pyramids, and more, and also the archeology?
I've always said they need to add fishing nets, they can work similar to fishing poles in the sense you throw it, get a feed back to pull it in. Make it where the net can o my be used in a 10 block deep water supply at the least, catches anywhere from 3 to 5 fish and fish only no items.
Add crayfish to rivers and such, in fact a river update would be cool. Anyway a crayfish cage could be used to catch them as killing them would drop nothing, but catching would give raw crayfish. Anyway the cage could catch up to 15 crayfish, the longer it sits the more you catch, so kinda fishing mechanic meets farming mechanic.

Can you add Vikings in Minecraft which will be neutral mobs and raid all the structures they will have spears, axes and swords which they can throw and have a Viking fortress. If you kill a Viking and go to a village a Viking raid will happen and if you throw a totem of undying at the chief he would disappear and the raid stops and you'll become the chief and you will have better fighting and you will be able to trade with them for weapons they use and blueprints for canons and massive war ships. 😸

I would also love the inclusion of fish and shellfish traps (a block you place in the correct biome at low Y level, immersed in water, and eventually randomly updates to have caught a fish, crab, lobster, shrimps, etc), fishing nets to catch large quantities of tiny fish as bait for rod fishing, or the ability to dig for clams in beaches. Additionally, I would love to see boats gain the ability to have sails so they can be allowed to move without player input, and some sort of magical wind creation block as a mid-endgame thing to allow you to purposefully push sailboats around to make them useful for redstone, as well as hopper compatibility for boats. Ideally slower than minecarts, but cheaper since the track is just water.
It will also be cool with mob heads that u can put on the front of the boats 5:42

Here’s my idea, how about the Pufferfish actually be useful other than just for water breathing potions.
I just imagined you either equip the chest onto the boat, like how you equip stuff to a horse or donkey, or you do the crafting recipe of a boat, but then add a chest in the middle. (But those might be a little too easy.)
Don’t know why Minecraft restricted chest boats to only the swamp update…but then it lost so we still don’t have them…
Bugs or new hooks…why not both?
Hooks get you better loot depending on the hook, and bugs get you catches more often depending on the insect.
You could do it like how Stardew Valley does it, where you equip the bait, but can also craft the hook onto it. In my opinion I think Stardew Valley does fishing (almost) perfectly.

Id personally want a net i could hang off the back of my boat. For balance it could have a small limit to how much it could carry but it would fill up as you sailed meaning i wouldnt be stood there with my rod waiting around.
Also lobster traps would be cool
