In my county the sheriffs will serve papers for you for $25, I just pay the sheriff to do it, not only is it legal to do so, but for $25 the sheriff's have the ability to tape a notice to a door and take a picture for proof of the person doesn't come to the door and that counts as served for court. No one else but the police can do that, everyone else has to hand them in person to the other party and if they never show their face it's hard to get them. So the $25 saves time, headache and gets it over with.
