In this episode my time in South Dakota is coming to an end, but first I’m heading out to fly fish for brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout in Spearfish Creek. As soon as we arrive we begin seeing trout everywhere, and after a million fly changes, we finally begin to dial in a pattern. This is the perfect end to an incredible trip to Black Hills National Forest.
COMMENT BELOW and tell me where I should go next and what I should fish for! And ask me any questions you guys have! What did you guys think of this South Dakota series?

Nice video!
They're spawning and you still caught some consider yourself lucky. Try euro nymphing you won't regret it
Beautiful sights, what a great trip! Love that pocket water fishing. Browns, bows, brooks love it!
What a small world because I live in spearfish and was literally fishing the exact same holes you were just yesterday!!! The fishing was so 🔥 yesterday I caught 3 browns back to back to back. And a beautiful bow to boot!
Awesome. Welcome to fly fishing 🎉
You have to do some fly fishing when you are back in panama 😄
We have alot of great fishing here in northeast Ohio! Walleye, musky, steelhead, crappie to name a few! If your ever passing through let me know!
Have you fished in Kentucky yet?
Rob, you have the most beautiful videos on you tube. I may just take up fly fishing myself. What time of the year was this taken. Thanks for sharing.
When it comes to sight-fishing, I don't care if it's a 2" fish or a 200lb fish….it really gets the endorphins/adrenalin flowing when you get that fish to bite! Topwater and flyfishing are the best for it, though anything will do it.
The most amazing day I ever had flyfishing was a TINY mountain creek and I caught probably 100+ cutthroat trout ranging from a couple inches to about 8 inches. It was an absolute blast. And I've fished the stonefly hatch on the Deschutes and multiple hatches on the Metolious for trout that were measured in pounds, not inches. Including ripping streamers for Bull Trout WAY over 10lbs.
Hey Robert! Long time viewer from australia! I have to say this is now my favourite video you have ever done! It used the be the devils river trip you did which I have re watched many times but now it’s this video! Awesome job as always, keep up the best fishing content on YouTube brother. Much love from down under
Way to botspot the Hills.
Love how you take time to talk with the little ones along the way. They need positive experiences with nature and positive role models that care! Total respect for you! As always, I love the professionalism and quality videos you put out and keep up the great work!
What a cool area. I’ve been a field trips fan for a long time and this might be my favorite of them all. You were crushing them at the end. Thanks for sharing!
Suggested fishing in West border of Wyoming (path North to South) for kayak and fly fishing. Yellowstone National Park – Yellowstone Lake and Yellowstone River, Grand Teton National Park – Jackson Lake and Snake River, Pinedale Wyoming – Green River, New Fork, Willow, and Fremont Lakes along with the Green River then down south to Fontenelle Reservoir and finally Flaming George National Recreation Area which dips into Utah. All have wonderful fishing opportunities with sizable fish with some trophy size available. Primary species are Cutthroat trout, Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Lake trout, Brook trout, Mountain Whitefish, and Kokanee salmon once you reach Flaming Gorge.
Creek fishing in the mountains is tough (especially fly fishing). Limited water, so much vegetation (snag hazards), and steep conditions. The fish are almost always small but it is fun.
Wait till you tangle up with a steelhead on the fly!
Have you been to Michigan yet?
I live not far from Rapid City. Loved watching your trip to the Black Hills. It is such a wonderful place and my boys and I love fishing here. Thanks for showing its beauty and what it has to offer for outdoor activity!
I've seen you land all sorts of fish but I don't think I've ever seen you so excited. I'm 64, took up fly fishing 4 years ago and like you I love it. Tight lines from Cork City Ireland
great video as always. welcome to the fly fishing rabbit hole
That was a great series! Can’t wait to see the next destination. If you come back down to Louisiana hit me up. We can fish Grand Isle, hopedale, PAC from the kayaks.
Many beautiful fish. Thank you for uploading a beautiful video
The excitement of a grown man getting a bite is proof that we never really grow up. Awesome video, my excitement catching huge crappie last spring with my daughter last spring was equally exciting.
Love this video! Such a beautiful place 😘❤️.
Hello👋
What a trip. Looks like you had an amazing time. Great series. Greetings from DC. Hope you can make it down here sometime soon. Who knows maybe we can do some fishing together.
We just moved back down to SW Nebraska where my wife is from to help with the family farm after her mom's passing this last summer. For the past 8 yrs we have lived in NW panhandle of Nebraska. Use to go up to Ft Robinson near Crawford. We would fish the hatchery ponds and soldier creek catching tiger trout browns cutthroat and Brooke trout then hit the ponds for rainbows after that. It was a long walk where not a lot of people went since it was in the middle of no where and was all that was left after massive floods took out the hatchery. Now the trout are both stocked and wild run fish. Was always a blast because never knew if you would get a little 10 inch fish or a 5 plus pound brown trout.
Nice fishing i hoop to see more off tis cant off fishing.
Love your channel very machs.
Greeting from Belgium and my Georges.
This type of fishing is so neat and addictive. If fishing time was unlimited could easily spend every day exploring and learning a system❤ cheers sir 🍻
You are in the right spot
I remember starting fishing in the creek by my house and catching my first smallmouth. I remember it being on a tiny bronze panther Martin. And now my rep includes fishing salmon, steelhead and browns on the big creek here, the lower Niagara. Where as catching a 2lb smallmouth was a huge deal I don’t even take pictures with those guys anymore and wait for the 4s and 5s now crazy how time has changed.
Great episode bro. Can't wait to see you fish Montana. There's so many place to fly fish up here, tons of places to hit in a kayak. It would be wicked to fish with you man. Between Flathead Lake, Glacier Park, and Koocanusa the fishing here is beyond epic. Keep up the good work man 🎣💥👊 Fish On!!!
I was opposite. I fly fished for years and then started bass fishing with a kayak and a boat.
Love the black hills, try to get there once a year
Thanks for another great fishing trip. Remember that manure occurs. Stay safe and I will be waiting for the next video
That was a great series! Can’t wait to see the next destination. If you come back down to Louisiana hit me up. We can fish Grand Isle, hopedale, PAC from the kayaks.
Come fly fishing in North Georgia, or Western North Carolina!! We have some awesome opportunities on all kinds of rivers and streams, ranging from tiny creeks in the mountains with little brook trout to massive rivers with many of the 10 types of bass native to Georgia!!
Need to side/hook cast. The floating line is right on top of them. That’s why they are so wary.😂
Been a joy following your adventures! Can’t wait to see where your next destination is. Come to Virginia. Fly fishing is awesome here. Safe travels
Nice!!! Those small streams are perfect for tenkara rods
Come to Alaska again! I’m in the interior and I’ll show you some fun fishing.
That was so cool seeing those Trout mating!
No walleye or crappie fishing while in SD?
I grew up fishing that creek. picky fish indeed.
Fly fishing creeks is the best! If you make it back out to Washington hit me up and I'll show you some spots to wet a fly.
First !🎉
