021323 FATAL TRAIN VS TRUCK CRASH AND DERAILMENT

Just after 7:30 pm, a 57-year-old truck driver was leaving a mobile home repossession facility on Midline Road and I-69 in a Kenworth truck used to transport mobile homes. He approached the railroad tracks which had no crossing arms or signals. A southbound Union Pacific train traveling about 60mph approached the crossing with the horn activated. The driver pulled out in front of the train and was struck. The train continued down the tracks braking as 21 railcars derailed. The train was able to stop just before East River Road. Part of the truck and axles were still embedded in the front of the train. The remainder of the truck was in pieces at the crossing. East Montgomery County Fire Department responded along with Porter and Woodlands HAZMAT. The train was carrying shipping containers but until officials were able to inspect the bills of lading it was unsure if anything hazardous was involved. The truck driver was pronounced deceased on the scene and Montgomery County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace did the inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Splendora Police are investigating the crash. Crews moved in with massive heavy equipment and started moving the railcars into position to move them away from the scene. It is expected the lanes will be closed until Tuesday morning. However, there will be a 3pm decision as to if it would be safe to open it at 4 pm for several hours for traffic reasons. With the feeder exit at Fostoria closed motorists are forced to travel through the construction area to Cleveland before they can u-turn to go back south. A distance of right at 5 miles. Motorists who need to exit Fostoria are asked to exit FM 2090 and go west to Daw Collins then travel north to Morgan Cemetery and back east to Fostoria. The other option it to go to Cleveland and u-turn southbound to Fostoria. Saddle Creek Towing is on the scene removing the 18-wheeler.

Are people getting stupider? Don't they know to look for trains when they cross the track? There's an accident every day anymore. I remember before they had more trains and the crossings were just marked with a rail crossing sign. I guess God sorts out the dumbasses🤪

Misty Hilton

How fast was the train going. Just seems he plowed that truck at a high speed for a train coming into a small town.

Guess that's the victim under the white sheet behind the roofing sign. Later in the video the small area is taped off with scene tape and the body retrieved. Either he crawled there towards the highway and died or was thrown there. Poor guy.

What a mess – February is becoming a very expensive month for railroads. Prayers for the victim's family.🥀🌹💐

American police officer: Attack people, scream at them and violate their rights because they drive faster than the officer likes past an officer on the side of the road.
Also American police officer: "Rubberneckers" When you can clearly see flashing lights and police officers out of their cars all down the side of the highway on the overpass that he is talking about. You can't fix IQ

Stupid effing trucker! He didn't want to wait for the train so he tried to outrun it. Now there are about a half million dollars worth of damage, not including the obstruction to rail traffic. I hope this trucker, and all such flaming idiots like him, take their last ride straight to hell.
I hope his family gets hit for the damages. My sympathies lie only with the train crew, I am glad they were not injured.

Blaine Fields

My condolences to the family of the truck driver who died at that crossing.

Glad train wasn't hauling eggs

Did the Locomotives stay on the tracks? I wonder if truck driver did this on purpose, Maybe he had been told he had cancer or something and choose this way to go out. being in that kind of truck, and being a retired truck driver I can say he had to see and hear train.

My only thought is, I know how all the train debris is handled because I'm a railfanner, but I'm curious as just how did they separate the fatality from the wreckage, seems like it would have been a difficult task to handle.

Nice, need more 🙂

Well that's the last time that fool will get in front of a train
